There are roles in practicing Acro Yoga: The base, flyer, and spotter.

The base is the one in contact with the ground supporting the flyer by full strength support by both arms and feet. When the base’s extended legs are properly aligned with the ankles and hips, he or she can support a lot of weight which will help the flyer successfully execute different combinations.

The flyer is the one supported and elevated by the base while doing different poses. The flyer should have a great sense of balance in executing postures while being held by feet. One wrong move from the flyer and the base will become unstable resulting in failure in the routine.

The spotter is the observer of the base and flyer. The spotter’s task is also to ensure the flyer is safe as it lands to the ground. The tasks also include readiness and presence in the moment as the spotter determines whether the postures done are in good form or not.

 

There are a lot of different styles in this practice. A variety of poses from simple to extreme, for beginners and for experts. But one thing is for sure, you only need discipline and proper training.

1. Front Bird Pose

This pose is a classic pair pose. Beginner’s classes always teach this pose as the posture is easy for both the flyer and base. This is when you and your partner’s trust will be tested as the flyer and base let go to do the routine while the spotter takes a good look at the alignment and balance of the posture .

 

2. Hangle Dangle

Another difficult posture to do in a routine. This type of pose requires full strength from the base’s leg supporting the flyer’s weight as it elongates the leg to achieve the pose. The foundation of this pose must be the base’s strength and balance to fully support the flyer without shaking to find balance and poise.

3. High Flying Whale

High Flying Whale is a variation of back flying. This pose is a therapeutic one as it makes the flyer relaxed while in a holding the pose. Both of the roles will achieve relaxation and flex in this type of posture.

 

4. Floating Paschi

This is another difficult pose. The base supports the flyer by reinforcing the base’s feet with the flyer’s torsos in an upside-down position. The base should have incredible arm balance and strength to support the flyer. And vice versa, the flyer should keep the balance tight to ensure both of them will hold steady until the base lets go of the flyer to land on the ground.
