Sun, Yes? Sundress! Choosing The Right Sundress For You

Ladies, I think I can speak for us all when I say that the notorious sundress is a favorite go-to summer staple. Whether you’re headed to a bubbly brunch or a beach bungalow, the sundress is effortlessly interchangeable from day to night. I know ya girl right here can’t get enough of them. Honestly, if it’s cute and flowy, as I always say, “into the closet it’s going to go-y!” Haha!

Choosing The Right Sundress For You

When looking for the perfect sundress, I tend to go a little consumer crazy! As soon as it’s warm enough to kick off my winter boots and throw my hoodie into a corner, I’m on the hunt for a darling little number I can enjoy a margarita in! Here are a couple key essentials that I recommend looking for when shopping for the perfect summer sundress.

Versatility

Oh goodness! There is nothing I love more than an outfit that I can wear in the daytime when headed to lunch or an outdoor function and then, once the sun goes down, rock that same outfit until the break of dawn. Simply change those sandals to heels, your tote to a mini bag, add a pop of color to your lips and voilà, you’re ready to go! This can be a lifesaver, especially if you’re like me and tend to run fashionably late a time or two. Not having to scour the abyss that is my closet when I should have left 20 minutes ago is very helpful.

Color

Bright and bold is a popular color duo for when you and the temperature both decide to turn up. But, if you’re workin’ that sun-kissed glow, any color can essentially suffice. (Probably avoid wearing red if you get sunburned, though! Ouch!) If loud and proud colors aren’t your thing, a basic color dress with bright details or some neon trim will do the trick.

Flow

There is something about wearing a dress that almost dances with the wind every time it blows. I love a flowy silhouette that also makes me want to twirl around. An added bonus can be if you’re headed to a Summer BBQ and decide you want to eat your weight in ribs or potato salad (don’t tempt me with a good time!) that flowy dress has got your back…and your front! #whatfoodbaby

Uniqueness

This is an attribute that can make or break my reasoning for buying a dress. Say two dresses catch my eye: one is fairly priced but I already have something similar hanging in my closet and the second is a little more expensive but has a beautiful embellishment and is something I have never seen before. I will always go with the second option because it’s going to stand out in the crowd. I’ll get my money’s worth and definitely more compliments.

Price

There is always going to be a beauty you see from afar and when you get close enough to get a glimpse of the price tag, you have to do a double take. I personally think $100 is the absolute most I would ever spend on a sundress and that is only if I plan to have that baby for-ev-er! No worries though, I always find plenty of gems in the $20-$50 range that still set my heart -and my wallet- a flutter.

For a perfect example of a sundress that combines all five essentials, take a look at this festive little number I got from none other than Forever21. First off, I could wear this maxi to lunch or the beach and then easily rock it on a date with my man. The dress is black, which is slimming on everyone, and the white and orange details add a colorful pop of fun.The flow is flattering, as well as intriguingly unique. Most importantly, this dress stood out to me. The off the shoulder trend is on and poppin’ and pom-poms are forever here to stay. Then, right when you thought the dress couldn’t get any cuter, the two slits in the front stop your heart! *Swoon* I. Die. (Then I remember I bought this dress and I come back to life to wear it again!)
