Unisex Pieces for Gender Fluid Fashionistas

When it comes to fashion, there shouldn’t be any right or wrong. While clothing brands have traditionally segregated their clothes into men and women lines, more fashion houses are beginning to create unisex clothes as a form of self-expression and -identity. Here are some pieces we absolutely adore.

Unisex Pieces for Gender Fluid Fashionistas

Over the past several years, even more recently as last year, the term “gender fluid” has gained prominence and significance in the media, whether it be through stories of Miley Cyrus’ increasing gender fluidity or the transgender community which has long existed, but is only finally getting the attention it deserves.

“Gender fluid” is a gender identifier that allows a person to, at any time, identify as male, female, neutrois, or a combination of identities. When a person is gender fluid, they’re more than straight, gay, bi-sexual, or transgender. In many ways, they’re without gender, much like Prince’s I Would Die 4 U lyrics: I’m not a woman. I’m not a man. I’m something that you’ll never understand.

When it comes to gender fluid fashion, the closest term that can be used to accurately describe the new movement is unisex. Unisex fashion is built on basic pieces that transcend gender. It’s a growing movement that we can’t wait to see flourish!

To give you an idea of what gender fluid pieces look like, take a look below.

1. Zara Unisex Jeans

Zara launched its own gender fluid line called “Agendered” and one of our favorite pieces so far has to be these denim jeans. The cut and design is tailored to fit anyone, regardless of what your bits are.

2. Zara Unisex Jogging Pants

Even if all jogging pants look like they’re unisex, they’re not. Men’s jogging pants are made with a deeper crotch area, while women’s… aren’t. But when it comes to Zara’s jogging pants, you don’t have to worry about any of that because they look flattering on any sex.

3. Flavnt Steer Queer Baseball Tee

Don’t we just love baseball tees that can fit both men and women? I was never a fan of the shape of women’s baseball tees, so it’s nice to know that there’s a tee that’s flattering on everyone.

4. Tilly & William Maxi Tube

This maxi dress proves our point: everyone can and should wear them!

5. Tilly & William Point Tripler

Just look at this gorgeous piece from Tilly and William! It’s not only gender fluid, it’s super versatile too! Self-expression is finally allowed!

6. MuttonHead Store Long Sleeve Button Down

If there’s one unisex piece that I’ve supported all this time, it’s the button down shirt. To be honest, I prefer wearing button down shirts from the men’s section because I like the loose feeling. For me, women’s button down shirts are too form-fitting, so if you’re in the same boat, rest assured knowing a looser option exists!

7. SixtyNine Whatever Dress

True to its name, this SixtyNine Whatever dress really doesn’t care who rocks it. The epitome of IDGAF.

8. Not Equal- The Lost Circus Collection

Not Equal is a brand that’s a bit more high-fashion than the ones on this list (which is great to see!). This black dress is super chic and will look great on anyone.

9.  Not Equal – Reformed Collection

This is by far one of my favorite gender fluid pieces. Anyone who wears this will feel like a Queen or King for a day.

10. Howlin’ Stalemate Cocos

When it comes to sweaters, there’s no question that it’s one of the most popular unisex pieces there is. It all boils down to the size and design, but anyone can wear the trusted sweater. Don’t we just love unisex sweaters?

The gender fluid fashion movement has already begun! This is indeed a big move in the fashion industry that will expand the current boundaries of fashion, thus giving birth to a new category of style altogether. Cheers to that!
