The Perfect Beach Bag

First and foremost, find yourself the perfect beach bag. For me, the perfect beach bag is durable, water-resistant, and big enough to carry at least 2 towels and extra outfits. Beach bags come in different materials and sizes. You will know that you’ve found the perfect beach bag if you are able to put in every single thing you have prepared neatly inside and it is still very comfortable for you to carry.

Essentials to Pack

Towels

Towels are a must if you are going to the beach because if you have plans to get wet, then you better have a means to dry yourself off. Each person should have at least two towels in case one isn’t enough to get you through the day. Roll the towels and place them vertically inside the bag to save some space for the rest of your other necessities, or you can fold them flat at the bottom of your beach bag. I like to pack medium-sized towels because they are handy and fit better inside my bag.

Sunscreen, Moisturizer, and Lip Balm

Give yourself some tender, loving care by stocking up on sunscreen, moisturizer and lip balm. Sunscreen is great for protection against UV rays which are dangerous for the skin. At the beach, it is inevitable that you will become dehydrated and your lips will get cracked under the heat of the sun. Pack some lip balm to soothe your dry lips. Should you get sunburn, trust me, a moisturizer will help soothe your skin. Remember to always bring enough sunscreen to account for several reapplications.

Beach Hat and Sunglasses

Being under the sun the whole day will get you feeling too hot and possibly dehydrated! That’s why it’s a necessity to bring your beach hat and sunglasses so that you’ll have a bit of a shade and protection from the sun’s strong rays. Plus, what’s a summer beach attire without them, right?

Waterproof Containers

Waterproof your valuables. Use Ziploc bags or plastic food storage containers to store valuables like keys, money, cameras, photo ID, and cell phones. If your beach bag has a small zippered section or a separate pocket, store these items in them.

Water and Snacks

Don’t forget to hydrate yourself and to bring some snacks because swimming takes a lot of energy and the last thing you would need on your trip is for you to faint due to dehydration. Always pack water and some snacks to give yourself some energy for more swimming!

Long-sleeved Tops or Cover-ups

Depending on where you live and what beach you go to, it can get pretty chilly at night when the winds pick up. Even if you are on a tropical island, it is inevitable to feel chilly. So be a girl scout and pack some long sleeves or a cover-up that you can put on top of your swimwear to keep yourself warm at night.

Bring something to kill time

If you are the type of person who is not too fond of being in the water and you prefer to stay on land, then it is best to bring your own means to ease the boredom. I always bring at least one book to read, my iPod to listen to music, and a mason jar. Why mason jar? I love to collect small shells so I always put them in a mason jar.  If you are with your friends, some games would be nice. Bring an inflatable beach ball or some water guns. I’m sure you’ll have an epic time with your friends and family!

Goggles and Sand Toys

Are you going out with your children or nieces/nephews? It’s always best to have something to keep them from being bored. So always bring with you some goggles and sand toys. I remember one of my best childhood memories is of me playing in the sand and making sand castles. It’s one of the most fun activities I did at the beach since I didn’t know how to swim then. So bring some sand buckets or goggles so your child won’t have itchy eyes when they surface from the waves.

First Aid Kit

The beach is full of possibilities for different types of injuries and as a girl scout, I always bring with me a small First Aid Kit. Inside it are some plasters, band-aids, and cotton. I also have with me a small bottle of alcohol sanitizer to keep my hands clean and a medicine bag for some aspirin.

These are the essentials that I would definitely make sure I put inside my beach bag. With these, you are sure to be fully prepared for any scenario that may happen at the beach.
