Make Me Up: Summer Solstice Look

The beauty industry is a gorgeous phenomenon! It is a billion dollar industry that has graciously come a long way from the vintage “powder rooms” where our great glam-mas would go to add some rouge to their cheeks. With prestige brands like Anastasia Beverly Hills, Becca, Benefit, Lime Crime, NXY, Tarte and Too Faced taking the world by storm, they are also overflowing my makeup bags and organizers!

I recently ran into my friend, Taylor, at my beautiful cousin-in-law’s baby shower. She has been a Make-Up Artist for awhile now and we chatted for a bit about our favorite brands and beauty trends. After gushing over all the new palettes coming out, Taylor said she would love the chance to do my makeup sometime. I replied with, “girl, let’s do one for the blog!” and with a synchronized screaming outburst, we agreed to do just that!

Summer Solstice Look

For this makeover, we went for a Summer Solstice look that any make-up lover can easily achieve. Most of these featured products can be found at your local Ulta or Sephora stores, while some of them were limited edition. Let us begin, shall we…

Foundation

We started this look off with a freshly washed faced, followed by a thin application of Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel. We then applied Becca’s First Light Filter Face Primer and oh my gosh, this stuff has become one of my favorite products!

To hide any imperfections and the bags under my eyes (don’t worry, their designer *wink*) we used Tarte’s Maracuja Creaseless Concealer. For an overall matte finish, we used Revlon’s new FX Fill + Blur Foundation to begin the blank canvas of a soon-to-be masterpiece!

Eyes/Eyebrows

In the year 2017, you have to make sure your eyebrows are always “on fleek!” I usually like a defined brow, but for this look, we kept it natural by using the NXY Tame + Frame Brow Pomade! For the eyelids, we used the Sephora + Pantone Universe Eye Shadow Palette.

We used three different shades of pinks on the eyelids and added hints of the purple in the crease. We finished off the eyes with a cat-eye winged liner and you’ve cat to be kitten me right meow, it turned out so cute! Pro tip: Add the lightest eye shadow you used on your upper eyelids to your bottom lids to give the illusion of doe-like eyes!

Cheeks/Contour/Highlight

Now for my favorite part, the cheeks! I love to use peachy-pink hues and the new Benefit Cheek Parade palette has all that and a bag of chips. I like to use my tried-and-true Dandelion shade for an instant pink-me-up, but I am currently obsessed with Galfornia’s sunny golden-pink tone. We swept the blush along my cheekbones, as well as on my apples, and finished off with the Hoola Matte Bronzers to create depth and sculpt my face.

When it comes to adding some highlight, you can never apply too much. Let them see it from the heavens, girls! The Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kit in Sweets has an illuminating purple shade called Sassy Grape that definitely lives up to its name and delivers the sass! Use a fan brush to apply until you have reached your desired shine. Be sure to add some highlighter above the arches of your eyebrows and the tip of your nose for the ultimate glow!

Lips

For all of you unicorn lovers out there, you’ll love the lippies we used to achieve this look! Lime Crime’s products are “unicorn approved” and I am obsessed with their lipsticks. First, Taylor applied their limited edition shade, Eraser, as a base on my lips. This chic color lives up to its name and replicates the pink-nude color identical to that of an actual pencil eraser. For a hint of shine, she finished it off with their Diamond Crushers Iridescent Lip Topper in Lit. With hints of rose gold, there is a reason why they say diamonds are a girl’s best friend! Pro Tip: Add some highlighter to your cupid’s bow to make your lips pop!

There you have it, beauty babes…our finished Summer Solstice look! Shout out to my girl, Taylor, for helping me execute this flawless work of art! With shades of pinkish-purples on your eyelids and cheeks, pink-rose gold tones on your lips, and pops of colorful highlighter, you too can achieve this gorgeous, end of summer glow!
