If there is one item of clothing I can’t live without, it is definitely jeans! I wear it in summer, spring, fall and winter, and I just love it! But I have to admit, I’ve had a few that really didn’t flatter my body. Back then, I could care less about what kind of jeans I wore as long as they fit great. Now, I know better and so should you.

Today, we will talk about the different types of jeans and which one looks best with a specific body type. By the end of this post, you’ll be more confident and knowledgeable the next time you go jean shopping. Let’s get started.

1. Straight & Tall

If you have a body that is straight and tall, you can enjoy more flexibility when it comes to choosing a pair of jeans. Low riders look good on your body type since it emphasizes the hips. High-waisted cuts also work for you. But if you want jeans that are made for your body, go for one that has a slimmer and tighter fit to play up the legs. Jeans with a waistband that runs straight in the middle is better for you.

On the other hand, if you’re getting bored with the slim and straight cuts, you can change it up with boot cut or flare pants. I’m not talking about the semi-flare pants, I’m talking about the 70’s-inspired ones! Oh, and before I forget, light denim washes and heavily distressed pants are a go to.

2. Full Hips & Thighs

If you have full hips and thighs, what you need are jeans that will make you look slimmer around the hip area. Go for mid-rise pants, or pants with a higher rise at the back than the front.

The front rise shouldn’t exceed eight inches. This gives a flatter appearance in the tummy area and will emphasize your curves in a good way. As a result, the thighs will also look slimmer too. As for the fabric, go for a rigid fabric that does not go over 2% stretch for a more snug fit.

3. Hourglass

Ah, the tiny waist and curvy hips body… what do we have for you? This is probably one of the trickiest bodies to buy jeans for because you really don’t want to under- or over-compensate the size disparity between the waist and hips.

So, to make sure that your waist size stays in tact while your hips get a flattering makeover, go for a tapered leg pants with wider thighs and narrow on the ankles. Furthermore, to reduce gaping, go for a contoured waistband instead. You’d want jeans with a higher cut in the back as well.

4. With Tummy

Tummy and jeans can work well together if you know the right pair to wear. Of course, you want to hide your tummy, which is why a double-button waistband trouser will look good on you.

As for the rise, go mid-rise. It is best to have the waistband just below your belly button to cover the tummy area. A waistband with a bit of stretch, around 2%, should also help reduce the appearance of your tummy.

5. Pear Shape

Women with a pear shape body are better off with low-rise flares or trouser-style pants. The low rise helps make the hips appear slimmer. Another style that will look good on you is a high waist classic straight jeans. Bootcut and flare will also work. Jeans with big back pockets are also a great choice!

6. Plus Size

If you are a plus size, find jeans with a darker rinse for a slimming effect. As for the cut, straight leg that is slightly form fitting is a good choice as well as trouser-style pants with a flare.

7. Petite

For petite women, the major problem is the length of the pants. This is precisely why petite women are advised to wear slim cut pants, skinny jeans or cropped skinnies instead. Your size looks awesome in skinnies and the cut will also flatter your height, which elongates the legs making you appear a bit taller than usual.

Now that we completed the list, did you find the perfect pair of jeans for you? Do note that these are just tips and the best way to really find good jeans is to try them out for yourself. But hopefully, these tips will guide you in the right direction and narrow down the list of jeans styles out there.
