Adele Reveals What & Who ‘Hello’ Is About

March 30, 2019 By Perry Belcher Leave a Comment

Adele’s newest album, 25, has broke one record after another and yet, we find ourselves still talking about her first single, Hello.

After 21, no one could have predicted when vocal powerhouse Adele was planning on dropping her next album but when she finally did, jaws collectively dropped around the world. Adele’s first single, Hello, climbed up the charts like it was made out of nitro boosters. It broke one record after another and that’s just the beginning for this pop singer’s highly-anticipated, high-performing record.

Today we’re talking about what the album is about and who inspired it.

Adele Reveals What & Who ‘Hello’ is About

In 21, which was released way back in 2011, songs like “Someone Like You,” “Rolling In The Deep,” “Set Fire to the Rain” and “Turning Tables,” made it obvious who Adele was singing to and just what exactly she was singing about. When I first heard her new single, Hello, I wrote it off as another scorned lover’s ballad to her ex. Especially with crooning lyrics like these:

Hello from the other side
I must have called a thousand times
To tell you I’m sorry for everything that I’ve done
But when I call you never seem to be home
Hello from the outside
At least I can say that I’ve tried
To tell you I’m sorry for breaking your heart
But it don’t matter it clearly doesn’t tear you apart anymore

Those lyrics are more than just skin deep. They get you right to the core of your beating heart. It was only until today that Adele finally revealed why she wrote the song and who she wrote it for. And no, it wasn’t for an ex-lover or an ex-best friend… it was for her son, Angelo.

On Today, Adele opened up to Matt Lauer about the meaning behind Hello. Read the full story here:

In her interview with Matt Lauer, she, at first, hinted that the song was about reconnecting. Later, she said it was writing about her need to reconnect with her son whom she left to write her new album. She felt guilty, as if she had broken her son’s heart. She didn’t expect it would be as difficult as it was given that working moms do it all the time.

Why am I writing this? I’m not writing this to highlight Adele’s struggles and successes. I wanted to touch on this because I believe plenty of working moms out there feel the same way every single day. And I’m not just talking about working moms with working husbands, I’m also talking about working single moms out there who, basically, don’t have any other choice but to work for their child’s future.

I thought it would be easy. ‘Everyone f***ing does it, how hard can it be?’ Ohhhhh … I had no idea. It is hard, but it’s phenomenal.

Preach, girl. No one really knows how much of a sacrifice it is for a mother to leave her child at home every day to work. She spends 8 hours away from her child to make a living, 8 hours that she cannot get back, 8 hours that she missed in her child’s life. That, ladies, is how I define sacrifice.

You may not be a mother right now or have plans to be a mom in the future, but there is a place for this post inside every woman’s heart. Let us not judge what a mother has to go through. Let us not judge how a mother chooses to raise her child. Let us not judge why this mother is a single parent and chooses to leave her child at daycare to work. Ladies, instead of judging one another, let’s offer support and empower each other.

I hope we can offer more emotional support to women who have to sacrifice like this every single day. Cheer them up, make them smile and let them know that their sacrifices are worth it!

Hear the struggle and pain, and watch the moody, sepia-toned music video for Hello below.
