The Top 10 Movies to Watch on Your Holiday Break

December 23, 2015 By Perry Belcher Leave a Comment

Can you believe it? We are just days away from celebrating Christmas 2015 and a week after that, we say goodbye to 2015 altogether. But before you bid farewell to 2015, make the most out of your holiday break and watch movies that you haven’t seen yet. Or perhaps, re-watch the movies you’ve always loved!

The Top 10 Movies to Watch on Your Holiday Break

The holiday break is great to make up missed time with friends, family and even your significant other. On the other hand, if you’re single, consider it as time to spend more quality time with yourself too.

What I’m about to present you is a list of movies you can watch depending on what you’re looking for, comedy, romance and action. After all, the holidays shouldn’t just be a sap fest or one that has to be all about Christmas, right? If you’re ready, let us go over the list now:

1. The Grinch

What better way to start this list than The Grinch himself. Jim Carrey, who played The Grinch was spectacular as the green fellow who hates Christmas and wants to ruin it for all the citizens of Whoville.

Honestly, it’s actually fun to see an antagonist like the Grinch sneaking his way into town just to ruin Christmas for everyone. I love the thought of it! But of course, things don’t always go as planned and that’s when she meet a cute little girl that will change his perspective on Christmas.

2. Love Actually

Love Actually is actually a story about love, see what I did there? But seriously, this movie is a favorite among many because of the several love stories narrated within the movie. And no, it’s not just about lovers. It is also a story about the love between parent and child, sisters, friends and family.

It’s a feel-good movie that will really make you realize what Christmas is about–love. And mind you, I’m sure you’ll also enjoy the star-studded cast on this one such as Colin Firth, Liam Neeson, Emma Thompson, Keira Knightley, just to name a few.

3. The Nightmare Before Christmas

Tim Burton’s The Nightmare before Christmas is a dark musical film that is still interesting to date. Despite being released in 1993, with a very dated form of animation, Jack Skellington is being sought for two decades later.

I guess, the yearning for the movie really comes from the story’s core. Jack Skellington, who lived in a place where it is Halloween everyday stumbled upon a portal to a town where Christmas is celebrated. I can only imagine how weird it is for Jack but I’m also excited to see the change in him. This movie is certainly a must-watch this Christmas or every Christmas!

4. Harry Potter / Lord of the Rings

The holiday break won’t be that awesome if you don’t watch the Harry Potter movies or the epic Lord of the Rings trilogy. There’s just something about these movies that you have to watch over and over again. Watch it with friends, family or your lover and still be in awe of what’s in front of your screen. It’s good entertainment for everyone especially if you want to make the most out of your holiday break. Expecto Patronum!

5. Serendipity

Looking for the perfect rom-com this Christmas? You gotta watch Serendipity! Starring John Cusack and my girl-crush Kate Beckinsale, the two supposed love birds go on a love rollercoaster. Jonathan believes in love at first sign while Sara believes in fate and destiny. At the end, serendipity itself brings them back together. Lovely, just lovely!

6. Home Alone

There are two reasons why should watch the three Home Alone movies this holiday break. One, so you can remember how cute Macaulay Culkin was. He was too adorable! And second, because the Home Alone movies are just so fun to watch. I can even remember watching them when I was young, wishing I was Kevin doing all those tricks against the bad guys!

7. Elf

This hilarious movie is a must-watch if you want to have a great laugh Will Ferrell plays Buddy, an adult elf who lived in the North Pole since he was a child. But when he grew older, he realized that he doesn’t fit in so he traveled to New York to look for his father. And when he did, his father couldn’t help but be surprised how much of a rascal his adult son is. I love Will and this is definitely one of his funniest roles ever!

8. The Ref

The Ref is an unusual comedic movie that stems from the chaotic marriage of a couple that was kidnapped during the holiday season. When the family was kidnapped, the lies started to unravel one by one. Heck, even the kidnapper had enough of the mess he was in! Kevin Spacey, Judy Davis and Denis Leary were exceptional in this movie. If you haven’t seen it, this is the time to do so!

9. A Very Murray Christmas

Bill Murray spearheaded this comedy featuring a bunch of Hollywood celebrities like Miley Cyrus, Michael Cera, Chris Rock, Amy Poehler and the show saver, George Clooney. A Very Murray Christmas is actually a fake documentary and showcases what celebrities go through behind the makings of a variety show. It’s available on Netflix by the way.

10. Action-Packed Movies

This category is a big one because there are so many action-packed franchises out there. If you haven’t seen all of them, this is the time to start! Take your pick, X-Men, Hunger Games, Transformers, Star Wars, Star Trek, James Bond or even revel in all those Marvel movies. The choice is yours as long as you satisfy that combat satisfaction within.
It does seem like there’s so many movies to watch this holiday break, but this list is quite general and it appeals to people who like romantic comedies, love stories, comedies and action flicks. But of course, if you feel like watching Mean Girls, The Notebook or Saw this holiday break, feel free to do so. As long as you’re happy, we’re happy for you girl! Advance Merry Christmas y’all!
