10 Reasons To Stay In This NYE

December 26, 2015 By Perry Belcher Leave a Comment

Couch snacks. Enough said.

In all seriousness, I am a 24-year-old homebody and I like that about myself. I don’t feel the need to go out often and I”m sure some of you youngins feel the same way. I, like most of America, went out last year on New Years Eve and did have a really great time (free food was involved).

But, this year, I think I might trade the sparkly dress for a cozy blanket and here’s why:

1. To save money

This one is so obviously, so naturally, I put it first. Going out on NYE can be so expensive, it can create instant anxiety for 20-somethings that can barely pay their rent (ya feel me?). I live in Los Angeles, so I thought spending $80 last year on an all-you-can-drink soiree was a great deal. It may have been a great deal, but you know what’s an even better deal? Spending ZERO dollars on NYE.

At least, if you stay home, you won’t need to pay for drinks, food, uber, etc. You should probably still buy some food & adult beverages, but that won’t be nearly as expensive as the small fortune you would spend going out.

2. You don’t have to dress up

For some, dressing up is fun. But, if you’re like me, it feels like a chore most nights. Especially on NYE, there’s so much pressure to look your best!

If you’re having a night in with some close friends, you don’t need to get dressed to the nines. Unless you want to! You’re at home, you can do whatever you want!

Which brings me to my next point…

3. You don’t have a schedule/plan

Big nights out like NYE usually require lots of planning. You need to make a dinner reservation, buy tickets to an NYE event, plan a good time to get to the bar to avoid long lines, etc. It can be so stressful. You don’t want to be stressed while ringing in the shiny new year, do you?! I didn’t think so.

If you stay home, you can lounge in your PJs one minute and then pour yourself a glass of champagne and take a dance break the next. You’re the boss of the night.

4. You’ll probably have a nicer hangover

When you are out drinking, people tend to offer you drinks more often or just egg you on to drink more. It would be pretty awkward of your BF to keep offering to get you drinks at home. It’s your home, you can get your own drinks.

I’m not saying you can’t down a bottle of champagne at home and call it a night. By all means, go ahead. But water is SO MUCH MORE accessible at home then it is at the bar. So chug that H2O before bed and you’ll be happy in the morning.

5. You won’t have to make awkward conversation

When you go out, you have to make small talk with friends of friends and outgoing (read drunk) strangers in the bathroom. But at home, there are no fun-interrupting chats happening. No sir, not at my abode.

6. You control the guest list

YOU get to decide who comes over. It could be 10 of your closest friends or no one. Small gatherings on NYE are the best. I recommend inviting 1-4 friends for a quaint fun fest.

7. You get to pick the menu

You can have all of your favorite foods and drinks since you’ll be at home. That’s right, you can have classic blue box mac n cheese followed by a pint of your favorite Ben & Jerry’s ice cream. Throw in a little spinach and artichoke dip and you have my favorite meal. You can even delegate the drink making to your guests.

8. You can party with your dog

I don’t have a dog, but my roommate does. I can only image how significantly better her NYE would be if she could spend it with her dog. I’m sure you all feel the same way. Well, if you stay home, you can hang out with lil Tucker all night long. Dog’s really are a mans/woman’s best friend.

9. You get to be the DJ

There’s nothing worse than being out and being unhappy with the music choices the DJ is making. Especially if you’ve paid a cover to be there. Well, bust out your favorite Spotify playlist because you get to be the DJ all night long at your casa.

10. You can multi-task

That’s right, you can online shop while watching the ball drop on TV. You can Facetime with loved ones while eating appetizers. You can even do some laundry and light cleaning if you feel like it. You own the night.
