10 Travel Hacks For The Wanderlust: Score Cheap Tickets Today

December 26, 2016 By Perry Belcher Leave a Comment

If you’re bitten by the wanderlust bug, I’ve got a list of travel hacks just for you! Today I’ll be helping you score cheap tickets for your dream destination. Whether it’s a quick flight to another state or a long haul ride all the way to another continent, these travel hacks are guaranteed to save a couple of bucks along the way.

Get your pen and paper ready and let’s get started!

Travel Hacks For Your Next Adventure

Everybody wants to travel the world, experience more cultures, and meet new people. I, for one, want to see everything that the world has to offer, whichever the continent or country.

When prepping for a trip, I always like starting with the essentials. One of them being that I book cheap tickets to my upcoming destinations. Since I love sharing the things I find online, I thought I’d be a good fairy friend and share my travel hacks with you!

1. Go Incognito

It’s been said that airline pages can track if you’ve recently searched for flights on their page. When this happens, they’re more knowledgable about whether or not their flights are in demand. This usually causes them to charge you more than what you would’ve initially found. To avoid paying the additional bucks, just switch your browser to incognito mode. It’s that simple!

2. Use Flight Check Websites

Nowadays, there are tons of different websites that help collect information on flights, allowing you to see from a bird’s eye view which options are the cheapest. My favorite sites using Skyscanner, Kayak, or CheapoAir. I’ve used all three and they’ve never failed me, not even once.

3. Sign Up For Airfare Promos

If you’re keen on getting a heads up for cheap tickets, then you might want to consider signing up for alerts. Making a price alert for the dates and destinations you have in mind is helpful because it automatically sends you a notification once a promo sale it up and running.

4. Travel During Off-Peak Seasons

Special holidays, weekends, and even late-night or early-morning flights are the things you need to watch out for before booking a flight. Since these are the most wanted periods for flying, most airlines are bound to increase their prices. Traveling during off-peak seasons not only gets you a lower price but also lets you enjoy your vacation without the crowd.

5. Book Ahead

I’ve been one to take booking ahead for granted before so I wish I was more mindful of this beforehand. Booking ahead comes particularly in handy when going on international flights. The earlier you book, the more you save.

6. Fly on either Tuesday or Wednesday

The cheapest days to fly are Tuesdays and Wednesdays because the demand for tickets is lower. Sometimes the prices can differ from anywhere between $10 to $100!

7. Check The ‘Flexible’ Box

If you really want to save money on a flight, one of the best travels hacks is to be flexible with your destination.

Not sure where you go want to yet? Play around with Skyscanner’s Everywhere function. All you have to do is put your airport of origin, put “everywhere” as your desired airport, and then check the little “flexible” box. You’ll have loads of cheap options in no time!

8. Don’t Forget Your Miles

If you’re a frequent traveler, odds are you’ve got a handful of favorite airlines that you always use for flights. Make a mental note to check the miles you have on the airline company. You never know, you might actually be eligible for an upgrade or even a free ticket!

9. Check Baggage Limitations

This is something I’ve been particularly guilty of. I guess you could say that I tend to go overboard when it comes to shopping overseas.

If you’re planning to take advantage of a country’s sales, make sure to travel light before leaving. That way you’ll have more room and extra weight allowance to use for all your shopping bags. By the way, don’t forget to check the baggage limit of your airline. Sometimes even just an extra 1kg would cost you an additional $100.

10. Take Note of Customs

When going out of the country, it’s important to take note of the customs of both the US and the country to be visiting. For example, did you know that bringing foreign cheeses such as Roquefort and Camembert aren’t allowed in the US? The same also goes for salamis and Kinder eggs! Better to be safe than to pay a hefty fine.

There you go, ladies! Those are my travel hacks to help you stretch your penny as far as possible. In my opinion, it’s better to save money in flights so that you’d have more money for the experiences in your adventures like tasting different plates of exotic food, VIP tickets to the theme park you want to go to, or an Airbnb you’ve saved in your bookmarks.

If you want to travel more, these simple and practical travel hacks will have you booking one trip to another. Really, all you have to do is be prepared and wise, and everything will fall into place.

Comfy clothes are an absolute need on a flight. Do yourself a favor and check out this knit oversized sweater from Mason and Ivy!
