With fashion’s latest trend comes the question, how to wear velvet to work during the winter. Yes, ladies, I totally get you. I love wearing my velvet clothes. They are just such a joy to touch and so comfy to wear — I can’t get enough of them!
I remember loading my closet with tons of velvet pieces a couple of weeks ago. I was on a roll, I actually think I may have worn velvet simultaneously at one point. Can’t say I regret it though, I remember getting compliments on those two days.
How To Wear Velvet and Still Slay at Work
Fashion trends, what’s not to love? Sure they can be crazy and eyebrow raising at times, but more often than now they’re fabulous and make us feel confident. Sometimes fashion trends are temperature specific. Other times, some people love a trend so much that they try and incorporate it to their everyday wear — raise your hands if you’re like me, ladies.
I for one, adore velvet fabric. It’s almost euphoric for me to feel it touch my skin and I won’t lie, I may or may not have brushed it against my face before because it was so satisfying.
Now that we’re done with the holiday season, it’s back to work for all of us girl bosses. But ladies, just because we’re going back to our jobs doesn’t mean we have to let go of our style! If you’re a fan of the velvet trend, keep on reading to see my 7 ways on how to wear velvet at work during the winter.
1. Jumpsuit

Velvet jumpsuits are one of the most comfortable things to wear. The only drawback is that it can be a bit of a tease when you’re in the comfort room and have to pee, which is why I highly suggest only wearing jumpsuits during the surprise 1-3 hour meetings that happen on a weekend. But hey, if the restroom problem isn’t a bother for you, by all means, wear it on a Monday and start your week with a load of style!
2. Suit

I love balancing the masculinity of a velvet suit with a pair of sky-high heels and a dainty top underneath. This is one of the outfits I’d choose to wear on a stressful day because really, sometimes all it takes is a little extra confidence and ferocity to slay the day.
3. Blazer
Blazers are one of my go-to pieces for looking more polished in an instant. To be honest, it’s only my first time having a velvet blazer, but so far I’m happy with the results. It instantly makes any outfit look sharper.
4. Trousers

How to wear velvet trousers to work? Here’s the trick. Tuck your top in, step into your favorite pair of heels, and throw on a blazer. You’ll look major perf!
5. Maxi Dress

I have a soft spot for clothing in jewel tones. This gold maxi dress is all sorts of shimmery thanks to the velvet fabric, so this is an absolute win on my book. Don’t forget to put on a pair of statement earrings to complete the look.
6. Tunic

Want to know my secret on how to wear velvet during the winter? Use thick leggings. Really, it works and it keeps your legs warm!
7. Turtleneck

Long gone are the days when turtlenecks were only worn to hide love bites. I’ve got to be honest, I love wearing turtlenecks because they keep me feeling extra snug during the winter. I guess you can say I’m a tad bit overly excited about wearing a velvet turtleneck to work next week.
