Over the years, there is one incredibly timeless fabric I have grown an undying love for. The way it looks, the way it feels, and even the way it’s pronounced; it just rolls off the tongue with perfection! If you haven’t guessed it yet, ladies, I am talking about the beautiful phenomenon known as velvet! Everything about velvet screams style and sophistication! Personally, if a piece of clothing catches my eye, I am 100% more inclined to give it a nice little home in my closet if it comes in velvet.
Velvet Crush
As soon as that first autumn leaf falls, I have so many gorgeous statement pieces that are constantly on rotation within my fall and winter wardrobe. While velvet is arguably a seasonal material, there are some pieces here and there that can be worn year round. For this blog post, I am sharing some of my favorite outfits and accessories that I have a (velvet) crush on. Let us begin, shall we…
Dresses

Velvet dresses are so hot right now that the Texas heat itself is jealous. If I am going out and really want to turn some heads, I always make sure to drape my curves in a velvet dress. I have been known for jokingly telling my friends to bury me in my beloved wine-colored velvet dress because I love it so much.
Funny story: I fell in love with this dress when I found another blogger wearing it and it HAD to be mine! I searched the internet high and low, only to find it and have it be sold out. That night, I dreamt that I was searching for it in stores and finally located it! Well, some lady overheard me talking about it and proceeded to try and buy it before I could. I was literally about to whoop her butt over this dress…until I woke up!
Taking a chance, I hopped online immediately and, low and behold, they had one in stock…IN MY SIZE! I have never in my life added something to my cart so fast! After all of that trouble and all jokes aside, the dress is absolutely stunning and I am going to rock it forever…even when I am buried six feet under. *hair flip*
Purses

Remember how I mentioned that there are some velvet items that can be worn year round? Well, ladies, purses are one of them! I love using a velvet bag because they have this vintage and classy vibe about them! I recommend using a velvet purse as a statement piece to compliment a cute top with skinny jeans or the tried-and-true little black dress. They are also perfect for special occasions like weddings or a romantic dinner out with your loved one.
Shoes

Shoes are another great exception to the seasonal velvet rule. Velvet shoes, whether they are in flat, mule, or heel form, add the perfect amount of sophistication to any outfit. When I take my velvet beauties for a spin, I make sure to keep my outfit simple, yet sexy, and let my shoes do the talking and walking for me. *wink*
Skirts

Velvet skirts are one of my favorite pieces to dress up because of how universal they are! Pair them with a sweater, beanie, and tights for a chic winter look or a form fitting bodysuit for a holiday party with friends! If it’s more of a formal affair, like New Year’s Eve, rock it with a crop top and a big, faux fur coat! No one can go wrong ringing in the New Year while wearing velvet!
Blazers

A velvet blazer is a fashionista must have! For that extra touch of chic, I recommend wearing it with a simple tee or crop top, paired with black or faded skinny jeans. The great thing about a gorgeous blazer is that it is timeless and can dress up almost any outfit! It is definitely my idea of an “investment piece” because it can be worn year after year, in an array of festive settings.
Vests
I have never really been the type of girl to wear a vest, but once I found one in velvet, it was a game changer! Almost like the beloved blazer, I recommend wearing one with a little dress or over a basic tee. A velvet vest adds the perfect touch of sophistication to any personal style and can take any outfit from homeless to Hollywood in a matter of seconds!
While my closet is slowly turning into a velvet playground of splendor, I don’t think I can ever have enough velvet pieces! With its glamorous look and luxurious feel, I am always in search for another velvet beauty to add to my abundant collection. And while I know I can’t buy it all, there nothing is wrong with having a (velvet) crush from afar, right?
