The Emperor | Tarot Cards Meaning

What Does The Emperor Tell You?

The Emperor is the counterpart of the Empress. He is the Patriarch, the Animus and the Masculine Principle. He is the representation of great power and authority. His unyielding personality is a contrast from the Empress’ sensual magnificence.

The Emperor has a long, white beard which is a sign of his wisdom earned from his experience through time. As an epitome of masculine or father figures, he deserves time to be listened to because of his first-hand exposure to his consequences.

At the back of his throne are infertile mountains and the throne itself is adorned with four heads of rams which signify high intelligence, willpower, leadership, initiative and action. The Ram is also the symbol of Aries, the astronomical ruler of the Emperor.

The Emperor is holding an Ankh, the symbol of Life for the Egyptians, in his right hand. An Orb is in his left which represents the domain which he governs.

The crown on his head affirms his status. He still wears an armor which guarantees us that he is always ready for any battle.

An orange sky in the background and the Emperor’s red robe signifies his passion and liveliness for life and the trials it gives.

On the other hand, the Empress is naturally followed by the Emperor as Aries the Ram. He is also Mars (the ruling planet of Aries) to her Venus. He is the civilization to Venus’ nature and imposed order to her playful creativity. He is the “All Father” giving his offspring the organization they need to make them responsible grown-ups.

Aries as the first sign of the zodiac, metaphorically depicts the “infant.” Like a newborn, he is also jam-packed with eagerness, vigor and aggression. He is also straightforward, frank and often desirable. However, similar to a baby, he can also be an oppressor: tough, impatient and controlling.

Here’s Amanda Goldston‘s interpretation of The Emperor Tarot Card:

In worst cases, the Emperor is a dictator, commanding his will without rhyme or reason oh his dominion. But in best conditions, he shows a knowledgeable and passionate leader that everyone desires to follow, the amusing ruler of a well-ordered, lawful and prosperous Empire.
