Part 1: 36 Outfit Hacks Every DIYer Should Know

We’ve all experienced moments that are so embarrassing, they make us want to crawl into a hole, change our name, and be lost to the world forever. But, in our defense, we’ve only “been there” because we didn’t know any better. That’s why I’m going to lend you a helping hand and impart some outfit hack wisdom to ensure that your OOTDs are on point every day of the year.

If you’re a DIYer or looking to learn a few neat tips and tricks, keep on reading and stay tuned for Part 2. By the end of this series, you’ll be a walking, talking Pinterest. #lifegoals

1. Make Your Own Vintage Shirt

Check out Part 1: 36 Outfit Hacks Every DIYer Should Know at https://cuteoutfits.com/fashion-hacks-part-1-cute-outfits/

Want to turn your stiff shirts into soft, vintage shirts? Brine them! Soak the shirt in salt solution for three days and you’ll get the softness you’re looking for.

2. Open Fly

Bye, open fly! Use a keychain ring to keep that zipper in place. Here’s how to do it:

3. White Deodorant Marks

Those pesky white deodorant stains were hard to remove, but not anymore. Use baby wipes to get rid of those evil marks for good.

4. Pants in Boots

How do you fit non-skinny denim jeans into your boots? With this fashion hack:

5. Scratched & Damaged High Heels

Before buying a new pair of heels, revamp your old pair with glitter!

6. Angora & Mohair Sweaters

Angora & Mohair sweaters are prone to shedding. That’s just a fact of life. To keep your sweater from shedding (as much) hair, put it in a Ziplock bag then put the bag in the freezer for at least 3 hours.

7. Oil Stain on Clothes

Get rid of oil stains with baby power! Simply put baby powder on the stain and leave it overnight. When you wake up, you’ll be able to easily wipe the oil stain away. Neat, right?

8. Brighten Up White Sneakers

Are your white sneakers starting to look old and dirty? Get them back to their illuminated state by washing them with a mixture of baking soda and detergent, then use a toothbrush to remove the stains.

9. Stop the Runs

Prevent your tights from running by spraying hairspray on them. For another hosiery hack, click here.

However, if your stockings already have holes and runs, you can prevent them from getting worse by applying clear nail polish on the edges of the runs.

10. Stuck Zipper

Stuck zipper? Unstick it with Vaseline, olive oil, Chapstick, or rub a graphite pencil on the track.

11. Hem Problems

Always be prepared with either a glue gun or double tape in the event that a hem comes undone and needs immediate repairing. Once you acquire a reputation for terrible hems, you’ll never shake it off. Trust us.

12. Zip Me Up

No one there to zip you up? Get a ribbon, string or thread, and slip it through the zipper to pull yourself up.

13. Cleaning Suede Shoes

Suede shoes are hard to clean, but not when you use stale bread crust. Yup, stale crust will magically remove dirt from any suede shoe. Just be sure to gently rub the crust against the shoe.

If you don’t have stale bread at home, a nail file will also work.

14. Stretch Out Shoes

Are your shoes tight? Fill up two Ziplock bags with water, then place them in your shoes and the shoes in the freezer. By the next morning, the ice will have stretched your shoes out.

Another method is to wear thick socks, then wear the shoes and blow-dry them from the outside. This will loosen up the shoe’s material.

15. Dark Wash Jeans

To keep your dark wash jeans from fading, add 1/2 cup of distilled vinegar in your last washing cycle.

16. Threading Hoodie String

If the thread in your hoodie fell out of the hole, there are two ways you can put it back: you can either attach a safety pin at the end of the string or run the string through a straw. Once done, thread the pin/straw through the hole until you reach the other opening.

17. Ironing Collars

Take care of small wrinkles on your clothes with your trusty flat iron. It works the exact same way and is perfect for managing fickle collars.

18. Cover Poking Underwires

Is your bra underwire poking you? Use moleskin to cover the wire as a temporary solution. But please, get a new bra after this, one without an underwire, preferably.

I feel more fashion-savvy already! Who knew fashion disasters were so easy to remedy? Guess they can’t really be called disasters, can they? I hope you learned just as much and stay tuned for Part 2 where we go over how to fold your cuffs the J. Crew way, remove wine stains, and free up some jean space.
