How To Make & Keep Your New Year’s Resolutions

As the holiday season ends, more and more ladies are obsessed with making their New Year’s resolutions — myself included. There’s just something so promising with the coming of a new year. Aside from having a grand time of dressing up for the parties, it’s a chance to reinvent ourselves, tick off our goals one by one, and a chance for us to be a step closer to the person we want to become.

Worried that you might not be able to stick to your upcoming New Year’s resolutions? Don’t fret! I’ve got a couple of tips just for you.

Sticking To Your New Year’s Resolutions

With 2017 making its mark in a few weeks, it’s no surprise that a lot of ladies are busy thinking of goals for the year ahead. Now, making New Year resolutions are no easy feat. But perhaps what’s more challenging is actually sticking to the resolutions as the year progresses.

Don’t worry, I’ve been in your shoes. I know how hard it is to stick to something you’re not that used to, and how even more frustrating it is when more obstacles seem to get in the way. This is precisely the reason why today, I’ll be dedicating an article that will help you be successful — in making and keeping your New Year’s resolutions, that is.

Let’s get started!

1. Make Resolutions You Actually Want

Before I finalize the resolutions for the New Year ahead, I usually ask myself something. It’s a question of “Do I really want this?” and “How bad do I want it?” I ask myself those questions because I want to know what my purpose is for the resolution. If I say that I want to exercise 5x a week, is it because I really want to be fit? Or is it just because I want to hang out with my gym friends more?

Knowing your purpose is important because it’ll help set the tone for your goal. In turn, your purpose will help you figure out if your heart is up to it 100%.

2. Write Them Down

I’ve found that writing down goals make a big impact on me. Call it a sense of permanence, but I definitely feel more pressured to make my goals come true whenever I put pen to paper. It makes me feel like I’m a signing a contract for my future self, the one that wants to be better and accomplish more in the months to come!

3. Be Constantly Reminded

Aside from writing down your New Year’s resolutions, another good tip is to place them somewhere you can always see them. I like putting mine on the bookmark of my planner. This comes in handy because since I open my planner a lot,  I’m constantly reminded of the goals I’m working toward.

4. Take Note of Milestones

I like breaking down my New Year’s resolutions into concrete action plans. Doing so not only gives me a clear path on making sure I stay on track but it also gives me milestones to tick off as I go along.

I like rewarding myself when I hit those milestones too. It helps in getting me more pumped and determined to make my New Year’s resolutions turn into reality.

5. Have a Deadline

Deadlines come in handy for milestones because it helps create a path in achieving the New Year’s resolutions.

I suggest making deadlines for quarterly or monthly milestones. That way, it’s easier to track progress.

6. Don’t Beat Yourself Up

Let’s get real. There are times when you won’t be able to say no to that extra cup of coffee or another gorgeous bag like this one. But it’s okay! What’s important is what happens after. Don’t forget that you can get back up and continue on even if you’ve had a little hiccup along the way.

7. Buddy Up

It’s always good to pair up with a friend when it comes to resolutions. Be it as a gym buddy or a fellow classmate in a new skill you want to learn, having a friend by your side will make the road to bettering yourself a more enjoyable one!
