The Do’s and Don’ts of Athleisure Wear

The Emergence of Athletic Wear

Models like Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, and Cara Delevingne have helped pioneer the athleisure wear movement. Even celebrities like Gwen Stefani, Katie Holmes, and Kate Hudson are getting in on the fun. Hudson even has her own athletic wear line, Fabletics, which is the second most popular athletic wear brand next to Lululemon.

Recently, Beyonce joined in on the fun and upped the notch by collaborating her own Ivy Park with sports brand Adidas.

For active women, the athleisure wear trend was sent from the heavens (it’s finally socially acceptable to wear your workout clothes in public!). For women who aren’t so sporty, casually wearing athletic wear can be the perfect segue into actually working out. If the gym isn’t for you, you’ll at least be comfortable and stylish at the same time!

Before you hop on the athletic wear bandwagon, here are the dos and don’ts of wearing this year’s hottest fashion trend.

1. Leather & Sweats

Woman Wearing Leather Jacket | The Dos and Don'ts of Athleisure Wear

Who knew leather jackets and sweatpants looked great together? Edgy, yet stylish; we love it. It mixes the look of being active and being formally casual. It creates a unique casual that looks really cute.

Do: Pair your sweatpants with a leather jacket. Wearing leather boots is also a must.

Don’t: Go to any formal event wearing this ensemble. Strictly casual, y’all!

2. Track Pants & Booties

|

When wearing your favorite track pants, ditch the sneakers for your favorite booties. This outfit is leaning toward the streetwear fashion look rather than functional wear.

Do: Wear track pants with calf- or ankle-high boots, but don’t forget to wear a coat to complete the look. Gigi Hadid was seen wearing a similar outfit and it looked really good. It will look perfect on you as well.

Don’t: Try wearing pumps or heels with this outfit. It’s all about being chic and heels will not look anything like it!

3. Half-Track

|

It’s time to learn the magic behind fashionable half-sets. Tracksuits are now considered outdated but track pants and sports jackets are still a thing. Not just worn together.

Do: Get your sporty zip-up or bomber jacket and wear it with denim or skinny jeans.

Don’t: Wear the full tracksuit set. It’s now a relic of the past.

4. Go Dressy

|

Athletic wear can now be worn on a date night! The thing about active clothing is they’re comfortable and easy to wear. The materials used can soft and can now be combined with more formal-casual dresses and still look cute.

Do: Pair your athletic jacket with a sexy blouse and short skirt. Complete the look with stunning heels and you’re all set for your hot date.

Don’t: Wear athleisure clothes that don’t fit you well. There’s no room for baggy or oversized pieces in your wardrobe.

5. White as Light

If you’re gonna wear white, make sure it’s flawless! Keep it clean and don’t forget to match it with neutral colors.

Wearing white is something safe and difficult at the same time. It’s safe because of the neutral color and mixing it with black is a sure hit. It is difficult to wear because if you mix it with something off then it will not look good.

Do: For shoes, wear polished and ultra white kicks with a black dress or a flowy skirt. Your white sneakers will stand out. Do mix white tops with black or other dark clothes.

Don’t: Wear dirty, old sneakers. The same applies to dresses or shirts.

Just like in any fashion advice, keep everything coordinated, neat, and simple. When wearing athleisure wear somewhere else rather than the gym, think of it as if you’re dressing up for streetwear. Keep the colors coordinated to give you an overall outstanding look. Keep everything neat so you’ll look fresh all the time. Lastly, keep your outfits simple since wearing activewear with normal clothes can ruin your entire look if not coordinated properly.
