Before I walk out the door every day, I’m always faced with the hardest decision: Which purse shall I wear today? Do I need an everyday bag that I can fit my whole world into? Or a chic little something that will turn some heads? Sometimes, if I recently add a new beauty to my collection, I might just style my whole outfit around the bag itself. Like I always say, “The bag makes the babe!” and this babe definitely loves her choices of bags.
The Bag Makes the Babe
Now, when selecting the perfect bag to go with a cute ensemble, I like to think about what kind of environment I am going to be in, too. A professional setting is going to require a whole lot more from a purse than one needed for a night on the town. With all of these factors to consider, I thought I’d help a sistah out by sharing my impressive bag collection and how I’m able to choose the perfect one for each outing.
The Everyday/Business Bag
These two bags are my go-to because they are both versatile and ultra spacious. The Louis Vuitton is a classic, staple piece that can go with almost any outfit. I like to think of this designer gem as my “Mary Poppins” bag because I could probably fit my whole house in there.
On the other hand, this scalloped shopper from ASOS was love at first sight for me because of its size. With plenty of room to comfortably fit my resume, planner, and laptop, it has been my favorite to bring on interviews. Overall, these bags are ideal because you can essentially throw anything you need in them and be out the door in ten minutes!
Clutches
Clutches are great because they are universal for any event. I typically choose a clutch when I want to carry something light and, when I get tired, can just stow underneath my arm. The perfect clutch should be big enough to fit your phone, card holder, keys, mini perfume, and lipstick, but small enough to haul around for the whole night with ease. I personally love to bring them along to happy hour with my girls, date night, and weddings. Also, if I know I’m going somewhere where table room is scarce, something small and compact like a clutch is key!
Evening Bags
Fur, Velvet, or Suede, these are the bags I LOVE to bring out at night! They are fun, flirty, and spaciously elegant. Like the clutch, they have just enough room for my things, but with a dainty strap to drape over my shoulder. These particular bags can give any outfit a pop of glamour, without weighing you down for the whole night.
Special Occasion Bags
These bags are what I call my “Unicorn Bags.” They are rare, worth a pretty penny and not ones that I would want to risk getting messed up. For example, my prized Kate Spade x Magnolia Bakery Cupcake Purse is my absolute favorite bag! But, with it being so fragile, I only bring it out for the most extravagant affairs, like when I met Lauren Conrad.
My Kate Spade vintage powder puff purse (SO CUTE, right?) also falls into this category. It is a little bit more durable, but with it having white faux fur, I don’t want it to get too dirty. These two bags are completely unique and another example of what I like to call “investment pieces” because I will have them forever!
Novelty Bags
Once again, I had to save my favorite for last. Girrrrl, let me tell ya! Novelty bags are my weakness and I find them so hard to pass up (hence why I have SO many of them). I have ones in almost everything I fancy. From cupcakes, to fruits, to chocolate milk, and cherry pies! I like to sport these gems around when I am feeling extra fun, or if I’m going to a restaurant that matches my purse’s theme. (No joke, I sport the avocado bag every time I go out for Tex-Mex!) I get a lot of compliments on my novelty bags and they are great conversation pieces. Most importantly, they are just perfect for expressing your own fun and funky style. Anyone can carry around a plain bag, but not everyone has a glittery peach purse to complete their outfit!
Oh beautiful bags…*sigh* one can never have too many. I’m sure my fiancé can contest to this in some way or another, but life is too short to not be surrounded by things you love, right? I hope this guide helps you pick the right bag for your day at work or your night on the town. Even if you want to splurge on a new beauty, and you can’t quite decide on a particular style, remember these three tips: See how much room you need for your things, think about your environment, and consider what kind of wow factor you are going for!
