8 Celebrities Who Took a Stand Against Domestic Violence

January 8, 2020 By Perry Belcher 1 Comment

How strong are you to stand against domestic violence? Can you be the source of strength of those people weakened by their traumatic experiences?

Let these celebrities influence you to be courageous enough to battle not just for yourselves but also for others who became victims of domestic abuse. Along with the glitz of progress and achievements of different countries are the shadows of domestic violence. Somewhere around the globe, someone suffers from the cruelty of society every day. Worst, not all of their cries are heard and given justice.

8 Celebrities Who Took a Stand Against Domestic Violence

Domestic violence has to stop! Different organizations and institutions are doing series of campaigns and programs to end this. Moreover, celebrities also joined different advocacies to make our world a better place. Their voices and works are believed to be helpful in saving people from domestic violence since they are influential folks of the society.

Who among your favorite celebrities became advocates and champions of the fights against domestic violence? We’ve got a list of these fearless stars!

1. Victoria Beckham

Victoria Beckham is a loud and proud defender of AIDS. Together with United Nations, she reminds everyone that the key to ending AIDS is through awareness of women’s rights. If abuse towards women will not stop, effective treatment of HIV will be a hard task. This will make it almost impossible to end AIDS as well. Some of Beckham’s advocacies are documented in her social media accounts to reach more of her fans —  especially the millennials.

2. Lady Gaga

After being a victim of sexual assault and sharing it to the public in 2014, Lady Gaga engaged herself to support and speak for the victims on their behalf. She wrote ‘Til it Happens to You‘, an Oscar-nominated song, which talks about life dealing with sexual assault. Her social media accounts are also her platforms in sharing her advocacies — standing against sexual assault and standing by the survivors.

3. Nicole Kidman

Nicole Kidman has been the spokesperson for the UN’s Initiative “Say No – Unite to End Violence against Women” and an inspiring Goodwill ambassador of UNIFEM. For her, gender inequality is the root of all the violence experienced by women. If the world is aiming for a better tomorrow, it’s best to teach our children how to genuinely respect others regardless of their gender.

4. Christina Aguilera

The pop star icon, Christina Aguilera, has imparted some of her unfortunate experiences as a child because of her father. She admitted that violence was common in her home and neighborhood when she was still young. Thus, domestic violence has a negative impact on her upbringing. She used her music to channel out these struggles. She also graced different events which involved prevention and awareness of domestic violence.

5. Reese Witherspoon

Reese Witherspoon did an empowering movement for a campaign of stopping domestic violence. Being an honorary chair of Avon Foundation for Women and Avon Global Ambassador, she launched an ’empowerment bracelet’ to raise funds for the women who suffered from abuse. The best detail of the bracelet is an infinity charm that represents the limitless lives that women could enjoy if violence didn’t occur.

6. Monique Coleman

Known for starring in High School Musical years ago, Monique Coleman is also a dedicated philanthropist and outspoken advocate of ending violence against women. She is a powerful campaign woman against domestic abuse and role model to young women of today.

7. Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie is noted for her humanitarian efforts for years now. Being the Special Envoy for UN High Commissioner for Refugees, she was able to come across with different female survivors of sexual violence. Her support in giving better treatments for the victims is never-ending. She also believes that they deserve better than leaving them alone and making them suffer.

8. Kerry Washington

Kerry Washington has been an advocate of violence against women for years. Like other advocates, Washington has launched various campaigns with a goal of ending abuse against women. One of her campaigns was selling a limited-edition purse  she personally designed. The proceeds and donations to this program were given to the survivors of the abuse.

Watch this tribute to the 49 victims of the Orlando Tragedy from Human Rights Campaign:

Are you ready to make a stand against domestic violence now? Be the face of a peaceful and just tomorrow. Go forth and let your inner feminist shine through. No hate, just love!

DV.. it must end and women need to tell the truth without shame. My daughter is in the fight for her life. She finally got the courage to leave but now the real FIGHT is on. The ex has alienated her two sons- he has convinced them to hate her, the grandparents, and all extended family. This is DV by proxy – he can no longer abuse her in person so he uses the children as tools. He has financially ruined her. Words of support would help her. Court date is Feb 27, 2020 Tiffany Freeman Roehm in Highlands Ranch Colorado. Her story needs to be told –
