8 Celebrities Who Took a Stand Against Domestic Violence

Domestic violence has to stop! Different organizations and institutions are doing series of campaigns and programs to end this. Moreover, celebrities also joined different advocacies to make our world a better place. Their voices and works are believed to be helpful in saving people from domestic violence since they are influential folks of the society.

Who among your favorite celebrities became advocates and champions of the fights against domestic violence? We’ve got a list of these fearless stars!

1. Victoria Beckham

Victoria Beckham is a loud and proud defender of AIDS. Together with United Nations, she reminds everyone that the key to ending AIDS is through awareness of women’s rights. If abuse towards women will not stop, effective treatment of HIV will be a hard task. This will make it almost impossible to end AIDS as well. Some of Beckham’s advocacies are documented in her social media accounts to reach more of her fans —  especially the millennials.

2. Lady Gaga

After being a victim of sexual assault and sharing it to the public in 2014, Lady Gaga engaged herself to support and speak for the victims on their behalf. She wrote ‘Til it Happens to You‘, an Oscar-nominated song, which talks about life dealing with sexual assault. Her social media accounts are also her platforms in sharing her advocacies — standing against sexual assault and standing by the survivors.

3. Nicole Kidman

Nicole Kidman has been the spokesperson for the UN’s Initiative “Say No – Unite to End Violence against Women” and an inspiring Goodwill ambassador of UNIFEM. For her, gender inequality is the root of all the violence experienced by women. If the world is aiming for a better tomorrow, it’s best to teach our children how to genuinely respect others regardless of their gender.

She used her music to channel out these struggles. She also graced different events which involved prevention and awareness of domestic violence.

5. Reese Witherspoon

Reese Witherspoon did an empowering movement for a campaign of stopping domestic violence. Being an honorary chair of Avon Foundation for Women and Avon Global Ambassador, she launched an ’empowerment bracelet’ to raise funds for the women who suffered from abuse. The best detail of the bracelet is an infinity charm that represents the limitless lives that women could enjoy if violence didn’t occur.

6. Monique Coleman

Known for starring in High School Musical years ago, Monique Coleman is also a dedicated philanthropist and outspoken advocate of ending violence against women. She is a powerful campaign woman against domestic abuse and role model to young women of today.

One of her campaigns was selling a limited-edition purse  she personally designed. The proceeds and donations to this program were given to the survivors of the abuse.
