All the biggest names in TV are all dressed up in their best Emmy red carpet dresses, ready for the most important night of the year! If you think about it, the red carpet is to The Emmys in the same way street style is to runways during Fashion Week. While I’m sure everyone made sure they looked their best for the awards, there were certain red carpet dresses that really caught our attention. So read on to see 17 of the best-dressed stars, starring in some of the night’s most memorable fashion moments.

The Best-Dressed Stars on TV’s Biggest Night
For an actress, wearing the right Emmys red carpet dress is so important. After all, the Awards could be the biggest night of their lives and the culmination of years and years of hard work. We all want to look and feel their best for such a huge event like that, right? I’m so happy also that in recent times, red carpet dresses have gone from something reserved for thin actresses with cookie-cutter looks, to a way for women of all shapes, sizes, and colors to feel like the beautiful and talented people they truly are. Anyone who’s attending the biggest award show of their lives should look as glamorous and confident as they can be. Seeing this beautifully diverse group of women come together makes us all feel that one day, we can be just like them too!
Just keep scrolling to see some of my favorite red carpet dresses from this year’s show.
1. Viola Davis
When Viola Davis won an Emmy last year, I was one of many who gave her a standing ovation from the comfort of my own home. She’s such a strong and talented woman! What I love about her dress this year is that even if she plays a no-nonsense lawyer on How To Get Away With Murder, she’s not afraid to show her feminine side in a stunning dress like this.
2.Tracee Ellis Ross
A number of stars appeared in all-white Emmy red carpet dresses, but Tracee Ellis Ross had one of the best. The soft, angelic fabric is a great contrast to the edgy cut-outs.
3. Olivia Culpo
Former Miss Universe Olivia Culpo went for one of the shorter Emmy red carpet dresses of the evening, and she looked amazing! The intricate detail on this dress definitely makes up for the length.
4. Ellie Kemper
I love Ellie Kemper in Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt because she has such a sunny disposition and a positive outlook on life! And even in terms of red carpet dresses, Ellie is a ray of sunshine. This bright yellow Jenny Packham gown is a refreshing yet stylish break from all the other red carpet dresses.

5. Natasha Lyonne
Natasha Lyonne brought some serious drama to the red carpet this year. That white cape is so fall-worthy!
6. Taraji P. Henson
Taraji P. Henson is also one of my favorite actresses. She’s such a fierce and loyal character on Empire! Taraji pulled off this bright yellow Vera Wang gown with grace, style, and her signature fierceness.
7. Laverne Cox
If you haven’t noticed by now, I’m a bit of a TV addict, and Orange Is The New Black has got to be my favorite show ever. I love strong female characters with real and inspiring stories, just like Laverne Cox. For her Emmys look this year, Laverne went for maximum glitz and glamour with a gold gown that truly makes her glow!
8. Stephanie Corneliussen
Stephanie Corneliussen is wearing a Michael Costello gown for the Emmys this year, and she’s absolutely stunning! The mermaid cut and lace-up detail are such trendy additions to a classic black gown.
9. Kristen Bell
Kirsten Bell is no stranger to great Emmy red carpet dresses. This year she’s in a Zuhair Murad Couture with a classic silhouette and glamorous floral detail.
10. Niecey Nash
If there is an Emmy Award for the best all-white dress, I’m sure Niecy Nash is another top contender. I love her sass on Scream Queens, and it shows in this dress! She’s also got some stunning curves that this white gown was able to flaunt.
11. Nina Garcia
Florals seem to be another red carpet favorite this year. Nina Garcia brought a taste of high fashion to the pool of red carpet dresses, and we should thank her for that!
12. Sarah Hyland
One of this year’s biggest fashion moments has got to be Sarah Hyland in Monique Lhuillier. Who knew black pants would look so chic on the red carpet?
13. Giuliana Rancic
Giuliana Rancic’s dress is also one of my favorites this year. It’s such a dramatic, red carpet-worthy gown!
14. Kerry Washington
When I first saw Kerry Washington’s dress from the front, I had to take a second look to make sure she was really pregnant! This is such a glamorous and chic maternity gown, and it makes Kerry glow even more.
15. Constance Wu
Constance Wu was another star I didn’t recognize right away. She looks so different from her character on Fresh Off The Boat, in a good way. Constance traded her mom jeans and 90s polos for a glamorous deep V-neck gown that looks just like liquid metal. I’d wear that dress right now if I could!
16. Priyanka Chopra
Wearing red to a red carpet isn’t usually the best idea, unless you want to blend in with the floor. But Priyanka Chopra looked absolutely stunning in her red gown. Maybe we should reconsider the no-red policy!
17. Massie Williams
The Game of Thrones cast are known to dress well both on- and off-screen. Young actress Massie Williams hit the red carpet in a floral black midi dress—age-appropriate, but super chic!
