Homemade Facial Scrub for Oily Skin and Acne Prevention
Is your oily skin becoming a problem for you? I totally understand where you’re coming from…especially during summer when you’re sweating profusely wherever you go! Well, don’t you worry girl, I got your back on this one. I have a great homemade facial scrub tutorial for you today that will specifically target your oily skin and help treat and prevent acne as well. The secret? The natural ingredients! Let’s do it now!
What You’ll Need:
- Brown Sugar
- All-Natural Honey
- Lime or Lemon
- Clean bowl
- Measuring spoons and cups
- Empty jar
Step 1: Mix all the ingredients together.
Making your own homemade facial scrub is as easy as mixing all the ingredients together. But before we do that, let’s talk about what these ingredients will do for your skin.
Brown sugar is known for its exfoliating ability making it one of the go-to natural exfoliators of all time. The rough texture of sugar allows it to remove dead skin cells. It’s not as abrasive as white sugar, which makes it the perfect choice for facial, lip, and body scrubs.
Lime or lemon has plenty of benefits for the skin and body. But for the purpose of this tutorial, lime or lemon aids in controlling oil production of the face. The enzymes in lemon juice tighten the pores and the acid in lemon juice balances the skin’s pH. With less oil, there will be less acne production as well. Moreover, lime or lemon has antibacterial properties that fight acne-causing bacteria.
As for honey, it helps moisturize the skin. Scrubbing can be harsh on the skin so the honey, being a natural humectant, will help preserve and retain the moisture on the skin. Further, honey contains antioxidants that slow down aging as well as anti-bacterial properties.
To make this homemade facial scrub, mix 1 cup of brown sugar with honey and 1 lime or lemon (squeeze the juice out). If you find the mixture to be too watery, add more brown sugar. Be careful not to overmix because that will break down the brown sugar.
Step 2: Transfer mixture into a container.
Once you’re satisfied with the texture of the DIY facial scrub, you can now transfer it to an empty jar. I prefer clear glass jars so I can always see if the facial scrub is still good for using. Bear in mind that this is a natural recipe and it has lesser shelf-life. Plus, depending on the room temperature, the brown sugar can melt as well. And that’s how easy it is to do a homemade facial scrub for oily skin!

Exfoliating is great for the skin and should be part of your skincare regimen. However, you must be cautious about over-exfoliating. I know that your skin feels so much better after exfoliating and the feeling can get addictive. However, exfoliating must only be done twice a week as this process is harsh on the skin. The goal is to remove dead skin cells only, but if you scrub more than the recommended time, you might scrap off healthy skin cells as well. Also, make sure to scrub lightly and in circular motions. Hope you enjoy your cleaner and more supple skin with these homemade facial scrub recipes!
