How do you define a person’s success? Through his position in his work? By the number of properties he/she owns? Through the businesses that he manages? Or by how much he/has in the bank? If this is how you measure an individual’s success throughout his lifetime, you’re probably calculating it the wrong way.
Back in our school days, a student’s performance is determined by his grades. In a sports event, the winner is recognized by the number of points the team earned over the opponent.
But what if one sunny day, you come across an old man, in his simplest clothes and slippers, and asked you, “how has life treated you today?” How will you answer him?
True enough, life can be as simple as waking up and sleeping everyday but it can also be more meaningful if you’re able to live it without regrets. Money is not the lifeblood of a man’s existence, if I may say. Yes, nowadays, it’s hard to live without money. But living life with meaning cannot be bought by those paper bills and cards in your bloated wallet and pockets. A simple smile and greeting to your neighbor on your way to work is already something fulfilling. Aside from it gives you that ‘happy feeling’, your neighbor would surely feel appreciated since you acknowledged his/her presence.
A sincere gratitude from you to the cashier in a convenient store can also make a day more special. In this digitally-ruled realm, saying thank you is hardly done so why not make it a habit and start a difference within yourself.
You can also be a lending hand to others without giving up your finances. Helping out a little boy tie his loose shoelace is already overwhelming. Stopping while driving because a family of ducks is crossing the highway is a cute moment to cherish but without a doubt, it’s a simple way of informing you that life is beautiful if you just mind taking a look at things happening around you.
So if next time someone asks you about your life and how successful you are, don’t brag your money, investments and assets. Instead, give them details about the beauty of life in its simplest and most unique way and how your able to deal with it the happiest mood possible.
