Movies Make The Perfect Inspiration For Halloween Costumes
I’m so excited for halloween! As you know, I’ve been on the hunt for Halloween costumes—for myself and my squad. And my search for Halloween costumes is nowhere near done! There are still so many sources of inspiration to check out. So aside from historical Halloween costumes, I’m also looking at classic movies to find inspiration for my costume this year! I think iconic female characters are great Halloween costumes that everyone can relate to. My only problem is, how do I choose from all these strong, inspirational female characters? So whether you want to wield a sword, sing to your heart’s content, or go on a journey of a lifetime, I’m sure you’ll find Halloween costumes that tug on your heartstrings. After all, Halloween is your time to shine!
1. Buttercup from Princess Bride
Who can forget Robin Wright as Buttercup in The Princess Bride? She was married to the love of her life, only to lose him in a tragedy. She vowed never to love again, until a mysterious man saved her. So if you want to put a spin on the princess look, try this iconic character instead.
2. Princess Leia from Star Wars
Carrie Fisher played the role of the popular Princess Leia in the earlier Star Wars movies, which are some of the most well-known movies of all time. Princess Leia’s classic white costume is also really easy to pull off! Look for a long, flowing white gown, then just rock those side buns!
3. Margot from The Royal Tenenbaums
I never know whether to laugh or cry whenever I watch The Royal Tenenbaums, so I just do both instead. But one thing’s for sure, I loved Margot Tenenbaum by the end of the movie. This girl didn’t have a good childhood growing up, but man was she a genius! And I love her unique sense of style. Raise your hands if you immediately stocked up on black eyeliner and Lacoste polo dresses after watching this movie!
4. Scarlett O’Hara from Gone With The Wind
Scarlett O’Hara, the main character of the movie and novel Gone In the Wind, always put on the best and most elaborate dresses. But what I admire about her the most is her courage to pursue the love of her life. Not many of us get to do that anymore, sadly. But even if you don’t get what you want, at least you can look good while doing it.
5. Mia Wallace from Pulp Fiction
Mia’s unforgettable dance scene in Pulp Fiction is one of cinema’s greatest moments. But did you know that Pulp Fiction was an indie movie? It was the first independent film to gross over 200 million dollars! So if you’re looking for more modern Halloween costumes, dress up as Mia Wallace!
6. Holly Golightly from Breakfast At Tiffany’s
Decades after her role as Holly Golightly, Audrey Hepburn is still as huge a style icon as she was in the 60s. She really is the embodiment of Yves San Laurent’s equally iconic quote: “fashion fades, but style is eternal.” Any self-respecting fashionista has tried out Audrey’s iconic LBD, pearls, and bun look. So Halloween is the perfect chance to rock it!
7. Daisy Buchanan from The Great Gatsby
Carey Mulligan played Daisy Buchanan in The Great Gatsby. And to say the movie was a feast for the senses would be an understatement. There were so many beautiful outfits to choose from! But this gem-filled dress and headband outfit has got to be one of the most iconic looks from the movie. It really takes you back to the roaring 20s, doesn’t it?

8. Ilsa Lund from Casablanca
Casablanca is probably one of the most iconic films ever made. The love story is terrific! Ingrid Bergman was perfect for the role of Ilsa Lund and her chemistry with Humphrey Bogart was incredible. So if you simply love this movie, you should be Ilsa Lund for a night!
9. Bonnie Parker from Bonnie and Clyde
The movie adaptation of Bonnie and Clyde’s real-life story marked a new age in Hollywood movies. Not only are Bonnie and Clyde remembered as the inseparable crime-loving duo, their movie will also be remembered as having the bloodiest death scenes in the history of cinema. Blood and Halloween go perfectly well together so if you’re feeling more daring this Halloween, go for Bonnie Parker’s look!
Who knew that this bizarre alien movie from the 1970s would go on to become a cult classic? No one will ever take on Barbarella like Jane Fonda did. What about you, will you be hunting this Halloween?
11. Maria from The Sound Of Music
The Sound of Music is one of those movies we’ve all seen. Want to rock a classic and instantly-recognizeable look this Halloween? Be Maria Von Trapp! Everyone will adore you.
12. Dorothy Gale from The Wizard Of Oz
I always felt jealous of Dorothy Gale because she got to travel with Toto, the Tinman, the Scarecrow and the Cowardly Lion in search of the Wizard of Oz. Halloween is the perfect time to dress up as Dorothy! And if you have a dog at home and want to bring him along, this is the perfect costume to wear.
