If the idea of being apart for a long period of time scares you, then you better learn the best-kept secrets in maintaining a healthy relationship despite the distance in between.
Long Distance Relationship Advice For A Lasting Romance
Anyone who’s ever been in love knows one of the hardest is being apart, more so if we’re talking about months or years. Can the relationship last? Nobody knows the future, but there are ways to keep the passion and romance burning even if our dearest is miles away. If you’re looking for a long distance relationship advice, I have 11 that will help you build a healthy relationship despite the distance.
1. Remember: he’s only one call away.
Do you know more than 70 percent of the people who own smartphones bring their devices to the toilet? There’s definitely no reason why you can’t pick up the phone and make the call. It doesn’t even have to be important. It can be as simple as “I miss you” or “I thought of you today.” If he doesn’t answer the phone, leave a voice message.
2. Don’t forget the date nights
Just because he’s living out of state or even in a different time zone doesn’t have to mean date nights are over. Use Skype and other video messaging apps to help you. It may feel awkward at first, but trust me, as you go on, it will feel as if he’s just around you.
3. Don’t be afraid to be vulnerable
Girls, it’s never a sin to tell your SO you feel ignored or are struggling with the distance. In fact, it’s critical to talk about long distance relationship problems before they blow over and the romance dies. The more you are apart, the more you need to keep your communication lines open.
4. Bond with friends and family
Do you know what’s worse than idle hands? It’s an idle mind! It’s easy for you to think evil thoughts like…your partner cheating on you. Here’s a long distance relationship advice for you: don’t spend hours thinking about your partner. Keep yourself busy! Go out and have fun with your friends and family. Besides, when the long distance gets hard, they’re the ones you can count on.
5. Have fun together
Be silly, laugh, and talk about crazy stuff once in a while. It’s one of the best ways how not to sweat the small stuff and keep the relationship light.
6. Send presents
When I was in a long distance relationship, a friend told me it’s great to have something physical from my SO I could touch. At least, it would make me feel he’s just nearby. And you know what, it worked! Thus, every time somebody asks for my long distance relationship advice, I always tell them to do the same: send a present.
Give presents too to remember special occasions like anniversaries, birthdays, and holidays. They don’t have to be expensive. I even like DIY gifts since they’re more intimate and memorable. Try it.
7. Don’t hold each other back
Here’s another secret to maintaining a long distance relationship. You better not hold each other from pursuing your respective dreams. Isn’t that what real love all about, being each other’s cheerleaders? The last thing you want to happen is for your SO to resent you for stopping him from fulfilling his potential. I bet you wouldn’t want him to do that to you either.
8. Travel together
This is one of the things I love about a long distance relationship. Back then, I was always excited every time my boo and I decided to meet in an unfamiliar place and then explore it together. It usually felt like our first encounter! Traveling is also one of the best ways to get to know each other better and share ever-precious memories. It also helps you save money since you can pool resources and divide costs.
Traveling on a budget is easy these days. Besides scoring cheap air tickets, you can just hike a trail in a national park or even pitch a tent.
9. Just say no
Just say na-ah to jealousy and envy. Say no to workplace temptations and flirty guys. Say no to bombarding your SO with phone calls, texts, and e-mails, as well as stalking all of his friends, just to check if he’s faithful.
10. Enjoy some alone time
If you want to keep the romance alive until he comes back, create two types of activities: long distance relationship activities and me times. Rather than thinking too many what-ifs, consider the time apart a blessing, a chance to focus on yourself and what you want in life. Make yourself grow. Pursue your goals or improve your career. Embrace a new hobby. Just love yourself.
11. Look and feel beautiful
Stop moping and start putting on amazing makeup. Shop for cute outfits and treat yourself to a spa or a massage. When you look and feel good about yourself, you become happy. When you’re happy, you feel more loving, and that helps a great deal in making a long distance relationship work.
