To the untrained eye, New York Fashion Week can be a confusing maze of runway shows, fashion designers, supermodels, and street style looks. But more than a few days worth of runway shows, New York Fashion Week is a time when the entire fashion industry comes together to show us all the trends of tomorrow. And while the true test of these runway looks doesn’t come until they make it to the streets, it doesn’t hurt to try them out right now, right? So to help you make better sense of New York Fashion Week, here are all the stand-out runway looks from NYFW Spring/Summer 2017 that we want to wear right now.
New York Fashion Week S/S 2017 Rundown: All The Looks We Want
Relive The Most Memorable Runway Moments From New York Fashion Week
While street style has become an indispensable part of New York Fashion Week, runway shows remain just as relevant as ever. The looks include everything from show-stopping gowns, to conceptual art combined with fashion, and of course, looks we can wear straight off the runway. If I look at street style inspiration to see what’s trendy right now, I watch runway shows for a glimpse into the trends of the future.
So what are those trends? As always, it’s a mixed bunch. This year at New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2017, athleisure continues to rule the runways of Yeezy, Kendall+Kylie, and Tommy Hilfiger. I also saw lots of fun florals and patterns, innovative workwear looks, and even more clothes for real women with real, beautiful curves. This season’s New York Fashion Week is probably the most inclusive it’s ever been: from gorgeous curvy models walking alongside “traditional” models, to women like Reshma Quereshi, who prove that beauty is about celebrating our diversity and our unique stories. To see some of my favorite looks from New York Fashion Week, keep scrolling!
1. Monse
I love this look because it takes very classic, tailored materials and turns it into a fresh and feminine look. With this as inspiration, I might just make my own split shirt or shirt dress!
2. Jason Wu
The final look from Jason Wu’s Spring/Summer 2017 collection really captures the essence of the seasons. The floral appliqué is a dramatic and eye-catching twist on classic spring florals, am I right?
3. Altuzarra
I don’t know about you, but I’d definitely rock a pineapple print dress! I think this is such a fun and very wearable look from Altuzarra that I’d wear to a beach wedding, or even out in the streets with a cute denim jacket.
4. Cushnie et Ochs
Speaking of wearable looks, this one from Cushnie et Ochs is probably the most wearable one of all. It’s a classic pant-and-cropped-top combo done so well. I don’t usually wear crop tops to the office, but I’ll make an exception for this one.
5. Kendall+Kylie
Style icons-turned-businesswomen Kendall and Kylie Jenner also revealed their collection at New York Fashion Week this season. This look combines some of the hottest trends right now: athleisure, frayed hems, and lace-up dresses.
6. Akris
I’ve always wanted to rock an all-white suit, but sometimes it can be tricky to toe the line between tacky and classic. This look from Akris is definitely classic. I love the addition of the black and white scarf, maybe I’ll try that out!
7. Lacoste
What’s better than a comfy hoodie? A comfy hoodie dress. Lacoste revealed its new collection at New York Fashion Week, and my eye was instantly drawn to this hoodie dress. It’s just the outfit I’d go for on a lazy weekend when I still want to feel girly.
8. Rebecca Minkoff
The button-down skirt isn’t going anywhere, according to Rebecca Minkoff! While New York Fashion Week was for Spring/Summer collections, I don’t see anything wrong with wearing this skirt and sweater combo right now! Top it off with black boots and you have an outfit for any season.
9. Alexander Wang
Kendall Jenner has been making headlines at New York Fashion Week, both on and off the runway. This look she modeled for Alexander Wang proves that fashion is also about how you carry an outfit. So wear these trends with attitude!
10. Alexander Wang
I love a good shirt dress, but the floral detail on this skirt really made me stop and look at this outfit! I’d totally wear this with a denim jacket or blazer.
11. Christian Siriano
It’s so refreshing to see a girl with real curves walk down the runway, and look absolutely stunning while doing so! From humble beginnings on Project Runway, Christian Siriano has become one of my favorite designers ever. He really understands women of all shapes and sizes, and he knows how to make them look the best they can be. Remember Leslie Jones’ show-stopping red dress for the Ghostbusters premiere? Yes, that was by Christian Siriano.
12. Christian Siriano
This look is even more proof that Christian Siriano really understands how to dress a woman. It’s such a dramatic dress, but I’d totally wear this on a normal day!
13. Tommy Hilfiger
Not to be left behind by Kendall, Gigi Hadid walked the runway for Tommy Hilfiger’s New York Fashion Week runway and showed two looks. She opened the runway show with this navy-inspired look. I have a feeling that jacket will be a huge trend next year.
14. Victoria Beckham
From Spice Girl to fashion designer, Victoria Beckham’s New York Fashion Week show was chic from start to finish. She took basics like this jumpsuit and turned it into chic and trendy pieces in luxurious fabrics like velvet.
15. Yeezy
Kanye West’s Yeezy collection also showed at New York Fashion Week this season. And true to his aesthetic, we saw lots of new athleisure looks. I can totally imagine Kim Kardashian looking amazing in an outfit like this!
16. Desigual
This season’s Desigual show was so fun to watch! I loved all the colors and unique prints that were on show. This look goes against the traditional belief that you can’t mix patterns. The bright colors bring out the model’s beautiful skin tone, don’t you think?
17. Creatures of Comfort
Peplum is a silhouette that always makes me feel girly and young. So when it’s incorporated into workwear, you know I’m going to adore the outfit! This peplum jumpsuit from Creatures of Comfort sure lives up to the designers’ name.
18. Michael Costello
Didn’t think you could find homecoming dress ideas at New York Fashion Week? Think again. This cocktail dress from Michael Costello is chic and fashion forward, but still homecoming-worthy.
19. Michael Costello
While I love seeing wearable looks on the runways of New York Fashion Week, I also embrace all the eye-catching outfits I see. I get a sense of wonder and admiration when I see genuine creativity on the runway, like this dress from Michael Costello.
20. Thakoon
Think black and grey are boring colors to wear? Think again. For years, designers have been showing collections full of creative ways to wear them. The plaid coat stands out on top of this all-black outfit. Maybe I’ll try this look for fall as well!
21. Concept Korea
What are spring/summer collections without florals? The kaleidoscope pattern on this dress from Concept Korea is a unique way to wear florals next season.
22. Hellessy
Judging from New York Fashion Week, I have a feeling that white suits are coming back with a bang. This look adds a dramatic touch to a classic white suit and makes it so much more fashionable.
23. Jenny Packham
Jenny Packham is known for dressing Kate Middleton, one of today’s biggest style icons. The Duchess loves Jenny’s designs so much, she wore a gown twice! It may seem unbelievable for a woman like Kate, right? But after seeing the dress, I understand completely. If you don’t have any use for a gown at the moment, this jumpsuit from Jenny Packham’s New York Fashion Week runway show still has all the glamour and femininity of her other designs.
24. Banana Republic
If I had to wear just one kind of dress for the rest of my life, I’d wear maxi dresses. They’re so comfy and easy to dress up and down! This one from Banana Republic’s New York Fashion Week presentation will get you ready for spring and summer.
25. Project Runway
Project Runway is practically a fashion institution by now, and has launched countless designers over the years. So I always make it a point to watch out for Project Runway at New York Fashion Week to see not only future trends, but future fashion designers as well. I’m in love with how this look became wearable in real life, just by adding a jacket.
