How To Experiment With Grunge Clothing Like Taylor Swift

May 6, 2016 By Perry Belcher 2 Comments

Is it just us or has Taylor Swift been rocking the grunge clothing look ever since she went platinum blonde? If you’re looking to experiment with ’90s fashion like she is, here’s how to go grunge without looking like a caricature.

How To Experiment With Grunge Clothing Like Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift is just full of surprises, isn’t she? We’ve seen her go from being a curly-haired blonde who loved wearing dresses to a bob-rockin’ songstress who couldn’t get enough of her matching two-piece outfits. Nowadays, we’re not only seeing Taylor rock a lighter ‘do, we’re seeing her experiment with different colors and styles like never before.

Seeing her wear all this plaid and black has got us itching to try new looks, so if you’re wanting to experiment with grunge clothing, let’s take some style cues from Taylor herself before we start walking around smelling like teen spirit.

Straight from the Infamous Marc Jacobs Perry Ellis Show Runway

To try this look, swap your favorite footwear with combat boot heels and pair your favorite distressed plaid dress with a worn leather jacket. #rockgoddess

Manus x Machina

To nail Taylor’s futuristic Met Gala outfit, look for a metallic dress and gladiator heels. While it’s not the exact same match, I love this metallic slip dress by Maison Margiela. What could be more ’90s than a slip dress? For something a bit more polished, check out this metallic bandage dress by Herve Leger.

Third Eye Blind-ing Sunglasses

For a casual daytime look, go for a plain white t-shirt, distressed boyfriend jeans or shorts, a (preferably vintage) flannel shirt (American Apparel has the best), and Chuck Taylors.

Ultimate ’90s Throwback

For the ultimate Run DMC look (track pants not included), pair a cute athletic jacket with ripped jeans and a graphic tee.

Grunge Night Out

For a girl’s night out or party, try a sequined dress with clunky booties to look like a serious bad-ass. No one’s breaking Taylor Swift’s heart from here on out, I’ll tell you that much.

Edgy Meet Sexy Meet Grunge

For an edgier look, wear a black lace jumpsuit or bodysuit with patent heels or booties. The varying textures of black will add dimension to the look.

For great affordable jumpsuits, check out this lace jumpsuit by Missguided and this three quarter-sleeve jumpsuit by Alice by Temperley. If you’re looking to spend $7,000, this Zuhair Murad jumpsuit is the one for you.

The Final Touch

No grunge look would be complete without an edgy platinum blonde ‘do, now would it?
