12 Thanksgiving Decorations You Should Have In Your Home

November 13, 2016 By Perry Belcher 1 Comment

This year, it’s not just about the turkey, stuffing, and cranberry. It’s about getting your home looking as good as your dining table. Here are some Thanksgiving decorations to invest in ASAP.

Thanksgiving is the time I’d like to call the 3 G’s: gather, give thanks, and gobble. It’s the one other holiday in the year (the other being Christmas) that families like to spend time together, show their appreciation for one another and bond together through hearty meals. It’s beautiful, it’s heartwarming! And this is why a lot of families really put the effort into making every Thanksgiving a memorable event.

For this year, I’m actually going to spend thanksgiving with my family and we prepare for it by drawing lots. I picked “house decorations” and my other siblings were assigned to help out with the menu and other DIY projects for thanksgiving. This is easier for me because 1. I love decorating our home and 2. I don’t have to prepare everything on my own, unlike last year when I hosted our Friendsgiving dinner.

12 Thanksgiving Decorations You Should Have In Your Home

When it comes to Thanksgiving, it’s so easy to focus on what you’re making that everything else kind of just falls by the wayside. Usually, the first priority to make a list of the meals you need to prepare. And honey, we both know that’s not an easy feat.

However, once you got your Thanksgiving menu locked down, it’s going to be easier to focus on how to decorate your home. Remember, you’re going to be welcoming guests so your home should be just as festive looking as your dining table. If you’re a beginner decorator, don’t fret, I got your back! These Thanksgiving decorations will surely inspire you.

1. The Thankful Tree

I want to start the list with The Thankful Tree because I think it’s an awesome idea and will get everyone in the family involved. The idea is pretty simple too–hang a piece of paper on one of the branches and write down what you’re thankful for. After all, Thanksgiving is about giving thanks and there should be plenty of that going around this holiday.

2. Living Room Table Centerpiece

Having a Thanksgiving-inspired centerpiece can easily light up any room. While having a dining table centerpiece is a must, I suggest you put in the extra effort to make a center table centerpiece as well. Pumpkins are always an awesome idea. Why? It’s because during Thanksgiving, there are two places in the house that people will often stay in, the living room and the dining room. Hence, you have to make sure that both rooms look Thanksgiving ready.

3. Front Door Decor

Make your guests feel welcome even if they haven’t stepped foot inside your home yet by putting decor in your front door area. Putting some Thanksgiving decorations outside your home is always a good idea. It shows your enthusiasm for the holiday, which I believe is contagious this time of the year! If you have no idea how to decorate your front door, this rustic metallic fall porch decor is a good inspiration.

4. Burlap Garden Flag

What did I just say? Outdoor Thanksgiving decorations are always awesome! It gets the Thanksgiving vibe going in your neighborhood and it really shows how special this holiday is to you. This Burlap Garden Flag is so cute and it’s a nice way to remind passersby and neighbors to always give thanks!

5. Console Table Decors

Upon entering your home, a decorated console table will instantly get your guests in Thanksgiving mood. I know it can be extra work but decorating your console tables makes the home feels warmer and more welcoming. Take the photo above for instance, doesn’t it just bring you to high Thanksgiving spirits when you see it?

6. Cozy Porch Decor

If you have a porch, then this is a beautiful way to decorate it for Thanksgiving. I don’t know about you, but for me, porches are one of the coziest places in the entire house. I love sitting down on wooden benches or swings while reading a book, sipping coffee, and just enjoying the breeze. It doesn’t take much to achieve this look, but the end result is very inviting.

7. Outdoor Wagon

Now this is for the ladies out there who don’t want to be bothered decorating their front door and porch separately. You can just make something like this, an outdoor wagon with pumpkins that welcomes your friends and family. Thanksgiving decorations need not be over the top but you have to make sure that you get your message across. With this fall outdoor decor idea, you’ve also emphasized the natural beauty of fall season.

8. Burlap Buntings

Fireplaces and mantles are also good places to decorate especially if this is the focal point of the living room. As I mentioned earlier, your guests will surely spend a lot of time in the living room, so it’s a good idea to make the place really homey. I highly suggest putting Burlap Buntings or whatever buntings you can find. A few elements plus the buntings will suffice.

9. Fall Porch Decor

Fall is here, which means that you can intertwine your fall decor and Thanksgiving decorations together (which is easier work for you). I really like this fall porch decor because every single element is working together from the bunting, wreath, and to the wooden crates and white pumpkins. The colors are gorgeous too!

10. Small Dining Rooms

Usually, families prefer a big dining room to accommodate a big group of guests during Thanksgiving parties. However, if your family prefers to have an intimate gathering, a small dining room will do…with an exception! You have to make it feel as homey as possible as well. Take a look at the decor inspiration above. The dining table is practically pulled into the mini living room but it’s not that obvious right? Well, the Thanksgiving decorations are to thank for that.

11. Mudroom Decor

When I saw this photo, I really fell in love with it. This photo is a perfect example of beauty in simplicity. I wouldn’t mind having a mudroom with this look. And this is why I want to share this idea with you today. If you have a mudroom at home, all it takes is hanging a wreath and following up with throws in the color you prefer. And of course, mandatory pumpkins should be there too.

12. Open Shelving Buffet

Not many are fond of open shelving in the kitchen due to the dust that can settle on the dinnerware. However, I think, during special occasions, you can make the exception. This open shelving buffet idea is adorable. And not just that, it’s practical and functional too. When Thanksgiving is over, you can also use it as a shelf for books, photo frames, and other decorative elements.
