The Curvy Women Movement: “It’s Time To Embrace Thick”

November 14, 2019 By Perry Belcher Leave a Comment

In 2016, we’re embracing thick.

Why is it that when we’re born with straight hair, we want to make it curly? When we’re born with fair skin, we want to be tan? And when we’re born curvy, we want to be rail-thin?

Hedy Philipps was born a curvy woman who almost pushed herself to the point of no return in regards to obesity. It was once she hit rock bottom that she realized weight is nothing but a number and what really matters is being healthy.

This is her story:

If You’ve Struggled With Body-Image Issues, This Is a Must Read

Hedy’s mental and emotional state is not uncommon in this day and age. In a world where our character is based on our appearance and where images of thin, beautiful women have proliferated faster than weeds to be displayed on social media feeds, billboards and magazines, it’s normal for young girls and women to feel insecure about their appearance. It’s also become normal for women to take drastic measures to change their appearance in order to fit the narrow mold of what society has deemed “beautiful.” Admittedly, we’ve all been there before and, for some, you may be going through it now.

This story is a testament to the fact that you are the only one who can change your mindset. True, having supportive friends and family can help, but at the end of the day, you define what is beautiful and only you have the power to say, “I’m done with this crap. I want to be healthy and happy, not malnourished and miserable.”

My favorite part about this story is the message Hedy leaves us with:

It’s time to embrace being thick. It’s time to embrace being curvy. It’s time to love me.

Truth be told, there is no better time than the present to embrace the totality of yourself and love yourself for who you are, not what you long to be. As we’ve said before, the time is NOW to become your top priority.

Want to make a change in 2016?  Here’s how to make and keep your New Year’s resolutions.
