Trichotillomania, it’s hard to spell, harder to read, but, even more challenging to understand.
What is this disorder and how does it affect women? Jillian Clark, a Trichotillomania sufferer, shared her experience growing up with this disorder and how she finally dealt with it.

The Haircut That Changed This Trichotillomania Sufferer’s Life
Since childhood, editorial and portrait photographer Jillian Clark has suffered from trichotillomania, the irresistible desire to pull out one’s hair. For years, though, she didn’t even know that her condition had a name. “I didn’t realize it was a disorder until I Googled ‘pull out my hair,'”
You know what, I’ve actually heard of this condition, but this is my first time hearing it from someone who is actually going through it. Honestly, I cannot imagine how it must feel to live this life, having this irresistible desire to keep pulling out your hair. I mean, I get all frantic and panicky when I see my hair falling out already. How can one deal with this condition without even having a choice?
I’m so glad to have come across Jillian’s story. What a brave woman! She really is an inspiration to women who are also suffering from trichotillomania. Shaving one’s head is not easy, especially for a woman. I commend her for doing that and really owning it. As she said, it wasn’t even a fashion statement at all. Being bald finally gave her a choice–not to be able to pull out her hair anymore.
Life can really be unfair sometimes, but we cannot keep dwelling on the bad. Life is meant to be lived. We are meant to move on and live a better life. Thank you, Jillian for sharing your inspiring story and may other sufferers find courage like you did.
