A Day In The Life…Of A Blogger

January 20, 2016 By Perry Belcher Leave a Comment

Everyone meet the unofficial queen of Los Angeles…

Caroline, the girl boss behind popular lifestyle blog Love & Loathing Los Angeles. This entrepreneur is everything LA is: cool, hip, stylish and creative. Oh yeah, and a major foodie.
Even though her roots are in Autin, TX and her adolescence was spent in the Bay Area, her love for Los Angeles runs deep.
There’s something for everyone on her blog; it’s not just for Angelenos. Caroline brings the best in food, fashion, travel and more.
Read on to learn more about this up & coming blogger who will probably take over the world someday. Or at the very least get crowned the official queen of LA.

What made you want to move to Los Angeles?

The creative community! But the eclectic neighborhoods, the foodie scene, and limitless amount of activities may have had something to do with it too.

What do you love most about this city?

Again I’d have to say the creative community, the amount of love and support you can receive from complete strangers who want to see your dreams come true is surreal. I love that so long as you dare to dream you’ve got a network of people, brands, and groups who want to help in some shape or form – even if it’s just simply words of encouragement. I also love that there is something epic going on around town that you can partake in on any given day, at any given time. A beer fest? Sure. Concerts? Of course. Yoga on the beach? Yep. You name it LA’s got it.

What do you not like about LA?
Besides generic answers like traffic and lack of public transportation… rent prices make me feel all kinds of sad feels. Living in LA really can be the best worst thing ever!

What is the one thing you want people to know about LA that they may not know?
Los Angeles is 503 sq miles and is made up of 80 unique neighborhoods – in other words, there is something for everyone to love about Los Angeles, you just have to find it! It’s not difficult, just avoid Hollywood Blvd and you’ll be fine. Also don’t take it personally if strangers on the street don’t say hello let alone acknowledge your presence – that took me a minute to get used to but you’re not the only one no one says hi to!
If you weren’t living in LA, where would you be living and why?

I’d probably be living in Austin, Texas where I was born as a matter a fact! Austin has this very “small town meets big city” feel that I absolutely adore. Living costs are affordable, the foodie and music scenes are at their height, the people are incredible… what’s not to love.
What is a normal blogging day for you like?

No day is ever the same, but I suppose a normal blogging day would be spent with a good portion of the day on my computer writing and editing, a workout somewhere in between, and either an event or a restaurant outing in the evening!
Is blogging your full-time job?

I most certainly take on side projects but yes the majority of my time is spent on things related to Love + Loathing LA – which is a total dream come true.
If so, how long did it take you to make it your career?

In 2013 I left my corporate job with nothing to fall back on, directly following I took some time to re-evaluate what direction I wanted to head in and during that time I had started my blog. I supported myself by taking odd jobs here and there such as on-set PA work, but it wasn’t until this past year that I started making an income from my site.

What do you like best about blogging?

Blogging is incredibly rewarding in so many ways, but having the opportunity to meet and communicate with some truly incredible people is definitely up there on the long list of things I love about this gig!
What are some negatives of blogging?

Blogging can be scary, especially in the beginning when things can feel quite unstable. It’s all very exciting of course, but income is made on a project basis and that can make anyone a bit worrisome. Besides that and the occasional negative commenter, there aren’t too many downsides to doing what you love!

You blog about fashion, food and travel. What is your favorite topic to write about and why?

I blog about all lifestyle related topics because I love them all equally! My adoration for life in Los Angeles is because of so many aspects, and it would be hard being able to only talk about one when life itself is about enjoying all of it; including indulging in delicious food on occasion, feeling great in a fashionable outfit, and of course adventuring and having some fun!

What is your go-to outfit for a night out?

Right now it’s a (faux) leather mini skirt, a sweater, strappy sandals, and a long wool coat. Either that or high waisted trousers, strappy sandals, sweater, and a leather jacket. I’m a minimalist with a pop of color kinda gal!
Who/what has influenced you in your life & career?

On a personal level, my mom. My mother is my biggest fan, supporter, investor and also my best friend. She’s a strong independent woman and I wouldn’t be half the sassy and determined woman I am today without her. On a slightly less personal level, I was inspired to write a blog after reading and falling head over heels in love with David Lebovitz’s book “The Sweet Life In Paris” – I kinda owe him!

What are some of your favorite blogs?

Thrifts + Threads, By Kara Elise, Anne Sage, Let Me Eat Cake, SF Girl By Bay, Take Aim, Margo + Me, Studio DIY, Design Love Fest… all of these chicks are so badass and so dang inspiring it hurts my feelings!
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

“Not one bit of your self-esteem is tied to someone else’s acceptance of you.” – my mom.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years career wise?

Funny you ask this, I have been working on my new Passion Planner (which everyone should get!) and in the beginning of the planner is more a less a sheet to write down goals for one, three and five years from now. I’m still working on my five-year plan but more or less I see myself still writing, doing what I love, but doing a bit more creative/art directing helping other brands build their own dreams as well. The ultimate situation would look something like a book deal, a creative agency, and finally being crowned the official queen of Los Angeles.
