In honor of Mark Ruffalo’s Supporting Actor Oscar nomination for Spotlight, we’ve decided to dedicate a whole post to this great actor.
Ruffalo has been acting for over 25 years now and it’s about time people start noticing the immense talent he has. He has shown us time and time again that he can play any type of character well. He’s so versatile and amazing, he really does deserve that Oscar. After all, this is his 3rd Oscar nomination, hopeuflly three times the charm applies here because we’d love to see him finally win the coveted trophy.
In no particular order, here are (in our opinion) Ruffalo’s best roles:
1. Shutter Island
The only actors that get any real screen time in this movie are DiCaprio and Ruffalo. Most would assume DiCaprio would outshine anyone who shares a screen with him, but Ruffalo held his own throughout the whole movie and delivered a great performance even if this isn’t anyone’s favorite Scorsese film.
2. The Kids Are All Right
This is one of the roles that earned Ruffalo an Academy Award nomination. This role really solidified him as an outstanding actor, people definitely took notice after this.
3. Spotlight
Since this movie and role is the reason we’re doing this post, it only seems natural it makes the list. I personally think this is Ruffalo’s best role yet, he was absolutley phenomenal in this role.
4. The Avengers (both of them)
The man is the Hulk. Everyone loves a complicated superhero. Ruffalo has a great cast to back him up here, which is why it’s one of the most popular movies of all time.
5. Foxcatcher
This is another film that the Academy felt warranted Ruffalo a nomination. He did not win but was praised for his performance.
