If you’re looking for really affordable fashion, you have to know that Target is one of the places to be.
Right behind Walmart, Target is the second largest discount retailer in the U.S. What makes Target really special among fashionistas is the fact that it has been collaborating with great designers throughout the years. It appears that Target is out to do more collabs, which is awesome news for everyone!
Let us take a look back at the best Target collaborations and what we can expect too:
1. Rodarte x Target — 2009
It was the holiday season when Kate and Laura Mulleavy joined hands with Target to make a very romantic collection. How romantic? I’ll let the frills, gauzy dresses and lace speak for themselves.
2. Alexander McQueen x Target — 2009
Target was fortunate enough to have collaborated with Alexander McQueen, the year before he passed away. McQueen brought youth and fun in his collection featuring sexy bathing suits in black, jumpsuits, A-line short dresses and cropped jackets.
3. Anna Sui x Target — 2009
Back in 2009 when our mouths were watering for Gossip Girl fashion, Anna Sui brought it to life with its collaboration with Target. Love Blair Waldorf’s style? Are you more of a Serena Vanderwoodsen? Or are you more into goth fashion like Jenny Humfrey? The beautiful collab had it all!
4. Proenza Schouler x Target — 2011
Do you recall the PS11 satchel? The one that every woman wanted to have? Well, before that came out, Proenza Schouler collaborated with Target to launch a bright and colorful collection filled with sundresses, bustier tops and solid-colored separates. It was perfect for summer and spring!
5. Missoni x Target — 2011
Just seeing the photo made everyone excited about chevrons and patterns. However, the Missoni and Target collaboration was more than just clothes. It was a huge collection that was composed of 400 pieces of items under clothing, housewares, luggage and anything else you can think of!
5. Jason Wu x Target — 2012
The Jason Wu and Target collaboration back in 2012 was a total dream, at least for me! Wu took inspiration from his Canadian roots and featured clutches, purses, work blouses and working with pleats as well as clean lines. But what really made my jaw drop was the colors he used.
7. Prabal Gurung x Target -2013
When you hear Prabal Gurung, you’ll immediately think of vivid colors and that’s right on the money. In 2013, Gurung’s collab with Target brought a slew of colorful dresses, pumps, high heels stilettos and crystal teardrop earrings and necklaces. It was all about having fun!
8. 3.1 Phillip Lim — 2013
3.1 Philip Lim and Target collaboration had a different target market. It stayed away from the youthful vibe and instead, focused on the professional woman. It was all about work-appropriate fashion from blouses to trousers. Even it’s wide array of bags consisting of totes, duffles and satchels will all complement the work look.
9. Peter Pilloto x Target — 2014
One of the most blooming collabs yet was that from Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos. Target knew it would be a huge success and they were right. Just within an hour of launch, the floral skater dress and sunglasses from this collection was sold out. In the next eight hours, another eights styles were sold out! Talk about a hit!
10. Toms x Target — 2014
Inspired by the company’s One for One movement where Toms give a pair of shows to the needy for every pair purchased, Toms believed that partnering with Target will bolster its giving model. However, what made this collab unique was that Toms wasn’t just selling slip-on shoes. They also sold apparel, accessories for men, women, children and home goods. All items under the 50-item collection was also sold under $50 only.
11. Lilly Pulitzer x Target — 2015
The Lilly Pulitzer collab with Target was something every girl wanted to get her hands on! It was fun, chic and cute! It was a collection made specifically for the airy spring and summer season. It was one of the most iconic collections from a collaboration and I’m actually hoping that it will come out every year.
12. WhoWhatWear for Target — 2016
The latest Target collaboration has arrived and it’s with none other than WhoWhatWear. The collection is filled with essentials like trousers, t-shirts and girly blouses. Add some trendy pieces, bright colors and bold patterns to the mix and you’ll have a holistic collection for every woman out there. What’s better? All pieces are under $50 and sizes range from 2 to 26!
Target has been taking the right steps with its collaborations so far and I can’t wait to see what’s up their sleeve in the coming months.
