DIY Doily Weddinng Invitations

October 21, 2016 By Perry Belcher Leave a Comment

Getting married soon? Congratulations! Making the wedding invitation is perhaps one of the most engaging activities to do as part of your wedding preparation. There are many ways to add a new and creative twist to your wedding invitation. One way is by using paper or cloth doilies. These DIY doily wedding invitations idea from Miixa Secundo will definitely be at the top of your list of wedding invitation design ideas.

Is your wedding happening this fall? Then you’re in the right place, and just in time for a dainty wedding invitation. Most couples think this is the perfect season to tie the knot because of the chilly weather and beautiful foliage. And I wish I had thought of doilies when I was planning for my wedding. This would have added the perfect rustic touch to my wedding decor! So if you’re having a rustic-themed wedding, then these DIY doily wedding invitations is perfect for you!

DIY Doily Weddinng Invitations

Create a Unique and Brilliant Rustic-themed Wedding Invitation Using Beautiful Lace Doilies!

I rarely use doilies at home since they look too fancy for my taste, and I never could quite understand its use other than for aesthetic purposes. So when I found this video from Miixa Secundo’s YouTube channel, I wasn’t surprised when it was used as a decoration for a wedding invitation.

Looking at the DIY doily wedding invitations, it’s clear that doilies are one of the perfect materials to use if you want a rustic look and feel for your wedding invitations and your overall wedding theme, as well. They come in different sizes and patterns, and they are rather inexpensive, too. Even the finished product doesn’t cost much either, and yet it’s still beautiful. Interested? Read on!

What You’ll Need:

  • A sheet of Royal Medallion Lace Round Paper Doilies (10 inches)
  • Your printed invitation card
  • Elmer’s Washable No-Run School Glue
  • A piece of twine (12 inches)
  • Scissors
  • A pair of Silver Wedding Band Favor Charms party favor rings
  • A small flower stud

Step 1. Place Card on the Doily

Try to center the invitation on the doily and to ensure symmetry on both flaps.

Step 2. Fold the Doily

Fold the flaps over each side of the card and gently crease the edges. Make sure to just pat it firmly since doilies can be a bit fragile.

Step 3. Glue the Card

Place small amounts of glue on all the available spaces in the center of the doily. Place the card and press it firmly, then let the glue dry.

Step 4. Cut the Excess Doily

Cut the excess doily on the top and bottom of the card. Make sure to cut it evenly and neatly.

Step 5. Insert the Twine

Take the twine and insert it into the holes of both flaps that are in the center and are nearest to each other. Make sure that the tips of the twine align, and then make a simple overhand knot.

Step 6. Add a Stud on a Ring

Prepare a pair of rings and use hot glue to attach a small flower stud on one of the rings to make them look like the real deal. You can also use small faux crystals or metal beads for a more realistic look. When the glue dries, loop the rings together.

Step 7. Insert Rings and Make a Bow

Take the two tips of the twine and insert the rings in them. Slide the rings to the base of the knot, and arrange them snugly so they won’t become loose. Tie the twine into a bow to secure the rings.

Step 8. Cut the Twine

Cut the dangling tails of the twine bow to make them symmetrical. Don’t make them too long or too short.

And that’s it!

And you’re done! It’s super simple, right? It’s so beautiful that I want to redo my wedding again and make my wedding invitations look like these instead.
