Fashion Trends- Western Flair

Fashion trends are always popping up, sometimes they catch us by surprise and other times we saw them coming a mile away. The newest trend right now is  influenced by those good old western movies we’ve come to know and love; read on as Sharon Mosely shares the hottest western fashion trends at the moment!

Rope in Fashion Trends With Western Flair

Saddle up! As you ride into spring, it’s the perfect time to head west and rope in some of fashion’s latest trends. Western-inspired style has long been a classic in many wardrobes, but this season, the rodeo is ready for a glamour stampede. Here’s the season’s round-up of the best trends on the Western fashion front:

Rope in those rhinestones

Sparkle and shine is one of spring’s brightest trends, and cowgirls everywhere are suiting up in sequins, beads and crystals. Shimmer in metallics. It’s all about taking the basics and embellishing them with glamorous details.

Any rodeo queen worth her rhinestone belt buckle will love the new leather coats and suede jackets adorned with ornate scrolling embroidery. Leather shirts and even suede dresses in light spring weights are versatile pieces that easily transition from cool weather to the warm days ahead. Once again, embellishment is setting the fashion bar high.

Rope in the fringe

Bling is not the only thing shining bright on the Western fashion horizon. The fringe is dripping from jackets of course, but the newest way to swish into spring is with a slinky slip dress with fringe benefits. But there are also lots of vests, skirts and tank tops dangling with fringe too.

Rope in the buffalo…plaid that is

The traditional plaid Western shirt gets glamorized with giant blocks of color this spring. This all-American pattern got its start in the 1850s at the legendary Woolrich Woolen Mills in Pennsylvania and is still a design favorite of fashion-forward cowgirls and cowboys. (It’s not just for lumberjacks anymore!) This spring, the bold buffalo plaid shows up in pastel shades, not just the expected red and black.

Rope in the flowers too

The “little house on the prairie” floral print dresses are moving off the plains this season and onto the fashion runways. Whimsical wildflowers show up in flowing maxi dresses, flirty shift dresses and even chiffon prom dresses. Team them up with that workhorse of a fashion classic – the leather jacket — and you’ve got new Western chic. Think boho goes to the rodeo.

Rope in the accessories

Last, but certainly not least, accessories can make cowgirl chic come alive with wild western flair. Ankle boots are glammed up with embroidery and look new in pristine white; wool felt cowboy hats morph into cool straw versions for the spring and belts and bags get fringed, beaded and blinged out. Add some turquoise jewelry or silver cuffs and maybe a braided leather lariat necklace or two. Bandanas are always fun. Then wrap up in a huge blanket scarf or toss on a suede poncho and you’re set to head out to the Western front…or even to Las Vegas. Just don’t forget the rhinestones!
