Nerd Girl Problem | What Really Happens When She Finishes a Book Series

December 26, 2019 By Perry Belcher 1 Comment

What do yo feel when you finish a book series? Happy? Relieved? Depressed? Or all those things? Can you really feel all these things at once? Yes, you can! Read on and take a glimpse at how a nerdy girl feels after she finishes a book series.

Nerd Girl Problem | What Really Happens When She Finishes a Book Series

Can’t Help It and Dies a Little Inside

Nowadays, there are a great collection of books to read. As the saying goes: too many books, too little time. But as a bonafide nerd girl, we do our absolute best to read every book that we gaze our eyes upon. May it be a standalone book and especially if they are a book series.

But the thing is, finishing a book can be a little depressing. It’s called post-series depression. This kind of depression is not related on how the series ended, it can be a happy ending or a tragic one. It is a kind of sadness felt when a book series ends. The feeling of missing the journey and knowing that it will not continue anymore because the series already concluded.

You see, when reading a book, chances are it will greatly affect you. The words narrated will pull your heartstrings and inspire or make you feel the bliss with the development of the arc of every story. Reading the book for the first time will transport you to a world where there are many of possibilities, where every turn of events may lead to another great event that can’t simply happen in real life.

And then the series ends, you will feel many things. Happiness if the series ended well and the opposite when the series ended in well, a tragedy. But this feeling of bliss (hopefully) will not last for a long time because you’ll eventually realize that the journey of your beloved characters is over. There will be no more Four or Harry or Frodo or Percy or Jace or Katniss or America or Gus.

Granted, you can reread the books but it’s not the same. You know you just died a little inside. So you find it a little hard to start another book. Or you go to the internet and express you love towards the series, and in some cases, you read or even start a fan fiction.

With all these talks about how depressing finishing a book is, why do we still read a book? Simple, reading a book will take you to places that will only exist within the bounds of that book. It will make you feel a kaleidoscope of emotions you never know you’re capable of feeling. And most of all, you will experience the joy and hardships of the characters you love so much and realize that the happiness you will feel after surviving every challenge in your life is worth the pain you encounter to achieve it.
