Spring Cleaning Checklist | Tips And Ideas You Need To Know

March 14, 2017 By Perry Belcher Leave a Comment

Welcome the new season with this spring cleaning checklist. Know the best spring cleaning ideas to make the activity easy and fun!

The Easy Spring Cleaning Checklist You’ll Ever Need

Springtime can mean many different things to people. It can be a time to tick off another entry in the travel bucket list, grow a vegetable garden, hike a new trail, or clean your home. But do you dread the last one? I understand it can be pretty difficult, time-consuming, and physically draining, especially if you don’t know what to do exactly. That’s why I came up with this easy-to-follow spring cleaning checklist! These spring cleaning ideas should make the activity more fun and quick.

1. Tackle the clothes first

One of my spring cleaning tips is to begin with something that will take most of my time. This ensures I don’t skip it, I don’t rush it, and I don’t have to think about it ever again, well, until the next spring. The activity I’m talking about is sorting out clothes I don’t need. To help you decide which clothes to keep, use this guide. While picking out clothes, keep three boxes with you and label them as Donations, To Keep, and For Sale (it doesn’t hurt to have a garage sale, really).

2. Go green with the cleaning products

While I don’t judge people who use commercial cleaning products, there’s something great about using natural cleaners. When used right, they can be just as effective and leave the home smelling fresher. They’re cheap too!

3. Don’t skip the pantry

Do you know a lot of people tend to overlook the pantry when spring cleaning? Not the brightest idea as it’s possible you’ve been keeping food items you should have thrown away before like expired canned goods or those that are not ideal for your health. Review every item in your pantry and get rid of those that shouldn’t be there quick.

4. Use a microfiber cloth

Don’t forget the microfiber cloth when making your spring cleaning list! It’s going to be your best friend along with the vacuum cleaner. You can use it to wipe windows clean, attach it to a long pole to remove dust above doors and ceiling corners, as well as use it as an instant mop. It collects dirt effectively, it doesn’t leave any marks and residue behind, and it’s washable so you can use it over and over.

5. Make it a gamily or group affair

Ladies, you don’t have to do the cleaning alone. One of the best spring cleaning ideas is to get your family and friends involved. Now is a good time to learn about hard work and responsibility. It also makes cleaning more memorable.

6. Wear protective gear

Spring cleaning shouldn’t hurt! Protect those hands from molds and burns by wearing protective gloves at all times.

7. Call professional help

You can’t DIY everything. For roof cleaning, gutter cleaning, plumbing, insulation, and electrical checking, get professionals to do it for you.

8. Create a spring cleaning checklist

To prevent yourself from becoming a headless chicken, make a spring cleaning checklist. List down the things you need to buy, the areas you should clean, and what type of cleaning you should do in these places. Add dates (if you can) and check boxes as soon as you’ve completed each entry to avoid repeating them.

9. Don’t forget the little spots

Don’t miss the little spots when cleaning. These include doorknobs and handles, showerheads, those corners of the home where dust can accumulate a lot, and even your carpet, which may already have too much pet hair and dirt. Grout the tiles again if necessary, check your home for termite infestation, remove the soap scum, and watch out for the molds that can be found underneath sinks and places with high moisture like the basements.

10. Add real plants

Spring cleaning isn’t just getting rid of things. It also means letting in better ones into your home like real indoor plants that can make your space more beautiful and breathable. Not into ornamentals? Then how about herbs for healthy cooking?

11. Organize, organize, organize

Organize the items as you clean. It makes future spring cleaning (and other types of cleaning) so much easier and faster. It also helps you evaluate whether you want to keep an item or not and reclaim more space. Your organizers shouldn’t have to be expensive. You can DIY them or buy them in bulk in dollar stores.

12. End with natural scents

Nothing is more appealing than relaxing in your living room that smells like lemon and cinnamon! Oh, so homey! Give yourself the best reward for all your hard work by using natural scents after spring cleaning. An incredibly easy way to do that is to boil orange peels. You can also place vanilla extracts, lemon slices and peels, and herbs like rosemary into a mason jar with water. Keep them refrigerated and boil whenever you want the home to smell heavenly.
