Everything You Need To Know About Styling Women’s Knitwear

October 19, 2016 By Jackie Johnson 1 Comment

Shopping for cute women’s knitwear is one thing, but actually rocking them and styling outfits is a completely different matter. That really cute sweater you just bought looks fine with a pair of jeans, but it might look even better (and more stylish!) with a cute skirt or if it’s layered over a button-down top. Fashion isn’t just about following trends and buying clothes, it’s about putting together looks that show off your unique sense of style! So if you’re looking for cute ways to rock women’s knitwear, just read on!

Everything You Need To Know About Styling Women’s Knitwear

All The Ways You Can Style This Fall Fashion Staple at Polyvore

Aside from Pinterest and Instagram, Polyvore is one of my go-to places for fashion inspiration. And it’s unique because while I still see trendy pieces, I also get to create my own looks! It’s a great tool to use if you’re deciding on your outfit, or when you want to see all the different ways to style that top you’ve been eyeing (before you buy it!). I think of it as a grown-up version of dress-up! Which is why this fall, I used Polyvore to put together outfits with women’s knitwear. I have a few knit pieces in my wardrobe, but I’m looking for fresh new ways to wear this cold season staple. Keep scrolling to see the different ways you can style women’s knitwear this season.

1. Knit Dress

You know I love dresses, if only because it means I don’t have to stress over matching a top and bottom! So this fall, I’m channeling Kim Kardashian with a grey knit dress. But I think I’ll go for an all-black look with a leather jacket, chunky mules, and a black beret.

2. Edgy

Here’s another edgy way to style women’s knitwear this season: statement knit! Graphic knit, a sequined skirt, and thigh-high boots can give your all-black outfits a street style-approved twist.

3. Cropped Layers

For casual days when you feel like dressing up a bit, layer a cropped sweater over a white button-down blouse. Add some texture with lace shorts, or other unique fabrics like leather. Finish off your look with your go-to handbag and a cute necklace!

4. Black and Cream

If you find all-black a bit boring, throw in other shades and colors! Nude or cream women’s knitwear adds a cozy look when layered over black pieces. And don’t forget to keep things interesting with different fabrics and textures like lace, chiffon, and leather.

5. Bright Knit

This is one of my go-to outfits for women’s knitwear. Pair a bright sweater with your best pair of black skinny jeans, and accessorize with ankle boots and a hat. These are pieces you already have in your wardrobe, it’s just a matter of mixing and matching them!

6. Sporty Feminine

Here’s another look I’ll definitely try out this season. I’m in love with denim overalls right now, so I’m thinking of layering a black turtleneck under an overall dress! For a sporty look, I’m wearing white sneakers and a cap.

7. Model Off-Duty

The key to the model off-duty look is knowing how to mix tight and loose, as well as long and short pieces. Try a cropped sweater with drawstring shorts to get that laid-back feel, then finish off with trendy sneakers and a leather backpack.

8. Blush Pink

Lots of people are wearing blush pink with more edgy and casual looks, but whenever I see pink I think girly! So I’m wearing a blush pink sweater with a cute red circle skirt. And I’ll keep the accessories simple but feminine: a Kate Spade bag, classic pink pumps, and diamond accessories. It’s the perfect date night look!

9. Color Blocked

Yes, you can still wear white pants in the fall! A pop of white can give your dark cable knit sweater a fresh and chic look. Keep your accessories equally chic: black ankle boots, rose gold sunglasses, and a chic red handbag.

10. 90s Sporty

This is such a fun look! If you’re loving the return of 90s fashion, pair a sporty sweater with a pleated skirt. Keep the schoolgirl look going with a pair of Doc Martens and a black backpack. It’s cozy and trendy!
